Chapter 1: Invisible

The alarm on Kareena's phone blared throughout her dorm room. She ignored it for a few seconds before finally silencing it. Grudgingly, she checked her phone and saw that the time was 6:45 a.m. Kareena wasn't a morning person she hated waking up early, but she knew she had to get up and start her day. It was Sunday, a day that most college students would sleep in to rejuvenate from their Saturday night festivities. Kareena never had time to rest she was always working trying to survive. Her parents wanted her to stay home and help with her 3 younger siblings, but she knew she wanted to make a better life for herself. She decided to go to college against her parents wishes, so she worked her but off to pay for it.
Kareena removed the sheets from her body immediately regretting leaving their comfort. She walked to her bathroom, and began her morning routine. She decided to put her hair in a messy bun to keep it off her neck. Her hair was very thick and curly and she hated trying to tame it. Once she finished that she went into her closet and picked up her Walmart work uniform, which consisted of a blue shirt and khaki pants. Kareena checked her phone and saw that the time was now 8:23 a.m. She didn't have to be at work until 1:00 p.m, but she had to be up early to eat breakfast, prepare her lunch, and catch the bus she needed to get to work.
Fortunately for Kareena she didn't have any roommates so she had the whole room to herself. Unfortunately she didn't have any friends either. She has always been a loner.She decided to eat oatmeal for breakfast and she prepared a meal consisting of chicken, broccoli, and brown rice for her lunch. She packed her lunch into a bag and cleaned up the mess she made in the kitchen. She went to watch the news as she did every morning before she grabbed her room keys and headed out to the bus stop. It took two busses and a 7 minute walk for her to get to her job. She made it to work with 30 minutes to spare. She went to the back, put her stuff into her locker. She sat down deciding to rest her feet for a while, knowing that she would be on her feet at the cash register most of the day.
She finally clocked in and went to her assigned register. Kareena actually liked her job she felt as if it was the only time she was acknowledged. She always felt invisible. Even if the customers were being rude and obnoxious she always enjoyed the attention. After working Kareena took the 7 minute walk and two bus rides back to campus. By the time she reached her room, it was a little pass midnight.
She removed her clothes and got into the shower. After her 20 minute shower, she rubbed lotion on her body before putting on her pajamas. She set her alarm for 6 a.m so she could be ready for her 8 a.m class the next morning. Not knowing that tomorrow will be the day to change her life forever, she drifted off to sleep.

This is my first book and I'm excited to see where this goes, please give feedback on this so that I can improve. I know that this chapter is kind of boring but it will get better. 🤓
