Prologue

They told her there was screaming and blood, lots of it. She was told of a struggle and an anguished cry. Rey was told he was dead. It was the third person that month. Her grandfather's eyes were always filled with some uneasy sadness, ever since the killings started happening. First it was her distant cousin, Sybil Kenobi. A young housewife who was brutally murdered last spring. At first nobody thought much of it until it almost became frequent. One by one each of her family members disappeared without much of a trace. Rey remembers the decreasing crowd of family that showed up at the funerals, getting smaller each time she was dragged off to attend a funeral of someone she barely knew. Each night she often went to sleep crying, mourning for the life of her family, some she hardly ever met. It was in those times where she held onto her grandfather tighter. Maybe if she held tight enough he would be safe and in what she hoped, untouchable. A girl could dream, right? Rey had contacted the police a little less than a week ago. She often checked her phone for updates but they never came, they probably thought she was insane. Like they would bother to invest time in a case they barely had evidence for. They most likely believed it was a despicable plot for attention, to them it was almost a waste of time. Like they could follow up on murders where the killer left nothing else besides the mutilated body. It was aggravating, the fact that she would show up to the station once in awhile practically begging for the case to be investigated, but barely anything was done about it. It was usually a couple snickers or sympathetic glances. It was after the last rejection when Rey had decided to take the case into her own hands. At least she'll finally get her answers, one way or another.

Chapter 1

It was a cloudy Monday morning and the smell of cheap coffee filled her nostrils. She was the only customer at the 7/11, holding a cup of one dollar coffee in her hands. The worker from behind the counter looked as if she was about to give up. Her blond hair pulled back messily and the remains of last nights makeup streaked carelessly across her face. Rey took another sip. The silence was deafening and made her thoughts wander.

Black. Rey hated the color. It meant death and to Rey it wasn't always a good thing. She should've been used to dressing in the same bland color by now but the effect never wore off. Death. Rey hated death.
"We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Benjamin Kenobi: caregiver, mentor, and grandfather."
She toned out. It was as if her whole world had crashed the moment those words were uttered. They twisted a thick knot in her stomach. Almost like one of those cheap pretzels you get from the mall. The ones her grandpa used to buy her. It made her sick.
"Rey, dear, where are you going?"
"Bathroom."
She ran and never looked back. The following week she packed up her belongings. The house stunk with the smell of loneliness and death. It became a chore for her to get up in the morning, knowing that no matter how hard she wished, they were never coming back.

The thoughts were soon interrupted by the girl's sappy voice.
"Miss? Are you almost done?"
Her eyes glazed over at Rey with impatience. She couldn't blame her, it was 1 in the morning and the poor girl probably wanted to sneak into the back for a quick nap before the next nutcase came in.
"Yeah."
Rey nodded, slowly getting up to throw away her almost finished coffee. As much as she hated wasting food, her thoughts had stolen her ability to put something in her mouth. So then she decided to roam around town, something to get her mind off the fact she was probably next in this cruel game of "Kill All The Kenobi's You Can." Once again her mind seemed to wander. It wasn't an unusual thing to happen, wandering off to what she used to have seemed a lot better than the harsh reality of mediocre coffee far too early in the morning. Rey stuck her hands into her worn pockets, the soft leather frayed but brought a warm feeling to the touch. It was her grandfather's jacket from when he was young and Rey's most prized possession. Her hand closed around the few coins and bills sitting in the left pocket, barely enough for some heat up ramen and another cup of cheap coffee. Rey's eyes scanned across the street, meeting with a small grocery store near the corner.
That'll do.
Pushing the loose strands behind her ears she walked across the street. Her cracked hands meeting the cold handle of the door. Sighing as the rush of heat met her pink face. She walked slowly through the aisles scanning the packages of food, looking for something to get her through the day. Her hand reached for the small container of frozen food, the small bits of frost melting at her soft touch. Rey headed towards the register, placing the container on top of the counter.
"$3.70"
She fumbled through her pockets, grabbing at the wrinkled bills.
Not enough.
Rey burst into angry tears. She thought she had enough. It didn't matter anyway. Another day hungry wouldn't make a difference. The person behind the counter gave her a impatient look, as Rey mumbled excuses for having a bill short.
"Ma'am are you still buying this or not?"
"I um—I don't have enough—I..."
The tears came once again.
"I'm sorry ma'am, you pay the price marked on here."
"I know! I just don't—"
Frustrated and hungry, she headed towards the door.
"Wait."
Rey turned to face a man. He was much taller than her, wearing a long black jacket close to his body.
"Here."
He passed the cashier a 10 dollar bill, she just stared in astonishment. Turning back around to face her he handed over the container followed by the change.
"T-thank you! I c-can't take this though..."
"Take it."
"But your c-change..."
"You need it more than I do."
And with that he was gone. The door closed with a swift motion and Rey ran her finger over the remaining frost, wondering who exactly that man was.

Chapter 2

It was a shitty morning. Well, maybe that was an understatement considering Ren had completely destroyed his tenth alarm clock that week. On top of that his phone was ringing loud in his ears, waking up to Hux's voice wasn't exactly what he looked forward to every morning.
"Hello fucktard."
"Hux. What the hell do you want?"
"I think you could answer that question for yourself."
"I told you I'm done with all this."
"You can't run away that easy Ren."
"But didn't I?"
He hung up the phone before Hux could respond. Letting the screen go dark. Sighing he began to make his way to the roomy all white bathroom in the door next to his room. He would've preferred black but a request like that was pretty uncommon and he'd hate to draw attention to himself considering the events of the past few months. Ren stepped into the shower letting the warm droplets of water roll down his back, tracing over the constellation of freckles scattered across his back.

"They remind me of the night sky."
"Really? How so?" He grinned slightly, his eyes bright. She lightly touched each spot carefully, almost tracing them.
"Like constellations, they remind me of those beautiful stars I used to stare at when I was younger. The city lights may block out those stars but now I have my own."
He didn't respond, instead he let his eyes roam over here, scanning over her like an artist to his painting. She was like a painting, his own beautiful painting.
"You okay?"
"Yeah." His lips curved in a small smile before he placed a small peck on her forehead.
"Good. My little star boy."

Ren closed his eyes letting the memories wash over him. He almost didn't know he was crying. Stepping out of the shower, he looked over himself in the foggy mirror. His eyes a puffy red, small drops threatening to spill once again from his eyes. Bringing his hands up to his face, he swiped at the lone tears. He was done crying. Crying was for the weak and Kylo Ren wasn't weak.
