Home Sweet Home : Part 2

"Hello?! Is anyone home?!" I yell putting my bags down in the entry hall.

"Mia!! Jonah!! Where are -", my words are lost in the clatter of feet running in from the patio door.

"Vinnie!! I missed you!" Mia exclaims as she runs up to me and jumpes into my arms. I stagger back slightly expecting her to be as a light as she was when I left, but I'm surprised about how much she grew in the span of a year.

"I missed you more!" cries Jonah joining us in the reunion.

"No,I did!"

"N'huh!"

"Whatever.... Vinnie how long are you staying! Will you go surfing with us?"

"I got a new board, do you wanna see it?"

"Yeah, we both did! But we can't do the big waves like you yet, Vinnie."

"Woah, woah! Calm down kids. We need to stop badgering Veinna with questions. She's had a long trip and needs to relax. Now go wash your hands, I need clean little helpers to help me with dinner, " April's no nonsense voice cut in making the twins quickly retreat from the room. Being a single mom, she has a strict way for order and rules, all whilst continually showering us with love and never giving us a moment to feel like we only have one parent.

Eight years after the birth of the twins, April still looks like she's fresh out of college. Her blonde hair is longer than when I left, almost upto the middle of her back and her tan looks amazing from constantly being outdoors.

Turning to me, she says, "I missed my little big Hunters," but her words are muffled in my hair as she wraps her arms around me for a warm and long overdue hug.

"I missed you too, Mom. More than you can imagine."

Although April's my stepmom I never call her April out loud because theoretically speaking she is the only "mom" I know and nothing could ever change that.

"We have so much to catch up on and we will do that over dinner. Until then, go freshen up. We're having a barbecue on the patio and it'll be ready in thirty minutes." she says.

"But-", I'm ready to complain about how I'm fine and don't feel like taiking a shower but she interrupts me knowing all to well what I'm going to say.

"Hey! No talking back. Just cause you're in college now, doesn't mean you're not still my kid, now shoo!" she jokingly scolds.

Knowing there's no use in trying to change her mind, I give her one last hug before heading up to take a shower.
