the sunshine cascaded down onto my face, gleaming through the open spaces between the leaves. my eyes gleaming a bright hazel, with all the light beams accentuating every shade of color. the grass smelled sweet with the droplets from the melted frost reflecting back into the sky. The auburn strands of hair atop of my head flew freely in the wind, matching the color of leaves still attached to it's home.

the leaves were home, and i was as well.

"what are you writing about?"

"about what i wish could be forever"

he turned to me from his position on the ground, resting his head on his arm. the light made his hair look like the rays filtering through the trees. he fluttered his long eyelashes a couple times before they landed on me. his eyes reminding me of summers at hopus lake. our summers at hopus lake. his smile reminding me of the fires we create in the cabin sat along the shore, and the fire in my heart.

"they don't really treat you that bad, do they?"

"as long as you are with me, then no."

as i set my journal down and looked beside me, i knew i was safe.
