I just received the most horrifying news I could imagine; my girlfriend was in a car accident. Her aunt called me at around 10:00 PM, and she tells me the accident was because of a drunk driver swerving into the lane they were in. She also tells me that Saizara (my girlfriend), Saizana (her sister), and their mom all had to be airlifted to MUSC in Charleston because of their injuries. I tell my mom and we immediately leave for Charleston.
When we get there, I call her aunt and ask her where to go to find Saizara. She tells me that they're not letting anybody see them at the moment, but she says I can wait with the her and Zara's grandmother until we find out what happened to them. We've been waiting for about 30-45 minutes when a doctor comes out and says "Is there anyone here for Myessha, Saizara, and Saizana Buviere?" By this time, more of the family is here, and we all get up at once when the doctor speaks and rush to to him. He asks who the closest family member is to them, and Saizara's grandmother says she is, so she has the prerogative to hear the news first. The doctor takes her off to the side to tell her exactly what happened to them. I see her burst into tears and walk to Zara's aunt and hug her before telling all of us what happened.
She tells us, in between sobs, what the doctor said, "He said they all have whiplash and a lot of cuts and bruises and Myessha has a broken leg, and a fractured ankle. Zana has a moderate brain injury and her foot is shattered. He said Zara is in a coma because of a severe brain injury, and she has two fractured ribs." I burst into tears again and my mom hugs me and tells me everything is going to be okay. Her grandmother keeps talking and says, "The doctor said we can see them now." My mom is commiserating me while we walk to the room, but I'm still crying and I'm praying that she's okay.
We get to the room, and as soon as I see Saizara lying there unconscious, I lose it. I fall to the floor and cry more than I've ever cried before. All I can think is that I hope she wakes up soon. I can't lose her. After I partially recollect myself, I walk over to the chair next to her bed and sit down. I try to tell myself that she's gonna be okay, but it's not working. She has a severe brain injury, and I know there's a possibility of her not waking up and it is absolutely killing me.
