Chapter 5
Break up Songs
Jesse was driving me crazy. I was so close to just push him out the window. Nursery rhymes were not my thing; by the time he got to humpty dumpty I was banging my head on the table.
It wasn’t my fault that he was sitting next to me, he insisted. I was beginning to think that there was something in that cigarette of his.
The bell finally rang signaling us to start moving to our next class. Jesse had finally stopped singing, “Give me a freakin hallelujah!” I yelled. Jesse looked at me offended, “why didn’t you like my amazing singing.” I glared at him from the corner of my eye, “you have got to be kidding me that was the worst singing I have ever heard.”
Jesse pouted, “You’re so mean.” I rolled my eyes at him, “anyway where is your next class.” begging that there was some chance that he didn’t have English with me. “History” I smiled, a cheeky one, “What?” Jesse asked, “Nothing just that we go our separate ways from here.” He frowned, “well that is a bummer” he shoved his time table back into his pocket, “see you at lunch?”
I poked out my bottom lip and put on the bitchiest voice I could manage, “really? I don’t think I could put up with you anymore.”
Jesse stepped closer to me, “really?” he mimicked. I looked around trying to find someone to witness this but the corridor was completely empty. “Oh shit!” I exclaimed I stepped away from Jesse “I’m going to be late for class”. Jesse started to walk away “Well, I guess I will see you at lunch.” I didn’t quite hear what he said but called out I would anyway.
Class went by quickly, I found out that both Adrian and Julian were both in my English class, but Vicky was nowhere to be seen.
I needed to see her and apologize for what I said to her. It was wrong for me to take my anger out on Vicky when I was supposed to take it out on Julian and especially Adrian.
I avoided them both and just sat on my own at lunch time waiting to see if Vicky would walk by, but it never happened.
Instead someone I would have rather not have did. “For the love of all things human” I cried. Jesse’s eyes flashed when he saw me, he sat down with me. “So...” he started, “how was English?”
The smell of alcohol was in the air, “Jesse… have you been… drinking?” he covered my mouth with his hand, “not so loud beautiful. Don’t want to get me expelled on the second day do you?”
He sounded so serious I couldn’t help it I cracked up laughing, “Look Jesse I’m seriously not that mean.” He burrowed his eyebrows, “anyway it was only one… maybe two or three vodka’s… wait no four.” he chuckled.
He kicked his feet up, “ok I would like a chocolate doughnut, with sprinkles, and a yogurt, maybe also a bottle of vodka… no actually water…” I stood up, “ I am getting my own lunch. You lazy ass are going to get your own.” He lifted one of his eyebrows “sorry confused you with someone else… maybe I don’t know a maid.” My eyes went wide, “I am not your scullery maid!”
I stormed off. He was so obnoxious it made me want to puke, all over him. I grabbed one of the trays from the nearly empty pile. Last year some idiot decided to go and count all the trays that were there, and apparently there is the exact amount of everyone in the school.
Strange huh.
I picked up a yogurt a chocolate doughnut with sprinkles and water. I wasn’t that hungry. Walking over to where Jesse was sitting with his feet propped up. His eyes went wide as he smiled and licked his lips. I didn’t have time to react as he grabbed my lunch from my hands, “What the!? Jesse!” he had already started to eat through the doughnut. “I was going to eat that!” he looked up from his doughnut or my doughnut that he was eating. “You weren’t going to eat it anyway were you?” he asked.
