Monday morning, the first day of the week that's always shit. Right after school, Armani has to work a long ass shift. Plus, midterms were right around the corner. Jiyong would always be there to support her, console her, and give her words of encouragement. But now that they broke up, she couldn't get the optimism that she needed.
"Ugh. Fuck." She groaned, zhooshing her hair in chagrin whilst she lazily got out of bed and directed herself in the bathroom.
She looked at herself in the mirror—bags drooping under her eyes and hair all a mess like a damsel in distress. She slapped her face a couple of times to snap out of her fatigue; it hardly even worked. She still had the urge to crawl back in her warm bed and call it a day.
Sometime later, she was out the door. She made a quick stop to her favorite Café just around the corner for some coffee. It always helped to boost up her energy on Mondays more than any other day.
After her coffee was done being made, the barista gave her two cups instead of one. That isn't right. "Uhm, I only ordered one." She said confused, holding the two drinks in her hands.
"Ani. (No.) You ordered two iced cappuccinos." Why would she have ordered two? Is it maybe because that used to be her Monday routine since her and Jiyong were still together? Or was she just consumed from the start of a busy day?
"Oh... keurae?.... Kwechanseubmida. Kamsammida! (Oh... really?.... It's fine. Thank you!)" She politely bowed at the middle-aged man with a smile and left the venue. She just spent more money without even realizing. Is this break up getting to her head? She was fine yesterday; apart from all the crying and sobbing.
At school, she met up with Jaehyun at his locker and gave him the extra cup of coffee instead of letting it go to waste.
"Oh~ Since when do you think of me?" He teased, taking a sip of the refreshment.
"Never. I accidentally bought two cups of coffee this morning. It was a routine before Jiyong and I broke up." She explained.
"Du bun-i heeo jyeo?! Waeeo? Dashi ssawasseo? (You two broke up?! Why? Did you guys fight again?)" He asked, taking another sip.
"Ani. We just needed a break from each other for a bit. His job is at stake and so are my studies."
Her eyes suddenly shifted away to see Jiyong behind him, discussing something with one of her professors. What more could she say about how he looked? He looked more Chic that day. He normally never wears his most expensive clothes whilst working. It's more for a night out at a fancy restaurant or an event.
"Yah. You're doing it again. Why do you always do that?" Jaehyun asked. She seemed to have been caught ignoring him, and admiring her ex boyfriend who was now sighting his way towards her.
"Anneyeong haseyo!" He greeted with a smile, bowing respectfully as they did the same—no more than a friendly heralding. That's all it was. She was anticipating a talk in private, but why would he do that? They've said what needed to be said the other night.
"Wah~ That wasn't awkward at all." Jaehyun laughed. Armani sighed deeply and shrugged it off. She knows he'll come around. She just wants what's best for the both of them. And if taking a break was the solution to their problem, she had no choice but to accept that.
"Aigoo, aigoo. There you go again, acting all sulky. Tsk, tsk, tsk. You'll be fine without him. A woman like you deserves better."
That one little comment put a smile on her face. Jaehyun's sweet when he wants to be; and those times are extremely rare. She's glad to have him by her side when all goes vile. He'd do so many ridiculous things to make her feel better; surprisingly, most of them worked.
"Ka-ja. We're gonna be late for class." He said, letting her link her arm under his. She happily linked their arms together as they walked to class.
School was finally over, and now she was in car, preparing for her gateway to hell, which is also known as work—a text was sent from Jiyong. Surprise, surprise. What do we have here? Does he want her back already?
The text read: 'Call me when you want. I hope we can still be friends.' Is that really it? She didn't think he was actually serious. She kept telling herself that it was just a break, and ONLY a break. He promised he would never let her go. And now he wants to be friends?
Next thing she knew, she was at his front door boiling in rage. His car wasn't there; must've meant that he still had work to do. But Armani didn't care. She was gonna wait all night if she had to.
After a long while of waiting at his doorstep, his Lamborghini pulled up in his driveway. She stood up and minded herself to lash out her anger. "Neon wae yeogi sseo? (Why are you here?)" He asked whilst closing his car door.
"Chingu? (Friends?) Did you really fucking say that to me?! You break up with me and then you tell me you want to be friends?!" She yelled. On the verge of slapping him across the face, he contained her from doing so.
"Armani, stop! Stop, okay?!" He yelled back.
"You son of a bitch." She scoffed.
"What do you want me to do, huh?! We're broken up! I tried, Armani, I desperately tried!"
"Don't give me that bullshit, J! I loved you! I fucking loved you! And now you're tearing me to pieces...." Her voice faded, right when she started shedding tears.
"Why are you doing this to me?" She sobbed.
"I'm doing us a favor. I didn't mean to hurt you like this, I swear. We left things off pretty well the other day. What happened?"
"You fucking bastard. You think this is all easy for me, don't you? I dealt with this shit longer than any of your other ex girlfriends did. And you had to fucking ruin it."
"Is this really how you want us to spend the rest of our lives together? Fighting, crying, and yelling? Cause that's not how I want to picture our future."
All she did was ignore him. She bypassed him, when all of a sudden, he yanked her arm back. She fought him to let her go, but he still wouldn't loosen his grip.
"Don't be like this.... Please." He begged.
"It's too damn late to beg, J! All that matters to you is your fucking job. You never cared about me from the beginning."
Next thing she knew, Jiyong quickly grabbed a hold of her nape and kissed her oh-so passionately. She was way too tired to fight back. Her knees started to tremble, so Jiyong had no choice but to hold her up in his arms, wrapping them around her core with strength.
"I can't let you go. Not after everything we've been through. You're the only person that has made me the happiest man on earth."
"I'm gonna be late for work. Let go of me." She pushed him aside, making room for herself to leave.
"Armani!" She stopped and turned back.
"I mean it." He added.
"So, what do you want me to do about it?! I'm not starting all over again, J!"
He approached her, gently putting a single hair string behind her ear and caressed her cheeks with his thumbs.
He looked into her eyes, "We don't have to. Okay? We don't have to. I just wanna be with you.... I love you.... okay? I'm so fucking sorry."
"I wanna be with you, too. But I can't... Not anymore. I can't do this, J. I'm tired of arguing with you. I'm tired of all this bullshit."
"Don't... Don't do this to me, please. Don't. Please, Armani." His lip was quivering and his eyes were gloomy. What could she do? Their relationship was hard, she didn't want to go through it all again. She's fed up with it.
"Fine. But I have to go." She removed his hands from her face and left the area.
