A thick layer of glistening snow had covered all of Hogwarts last night. Naturally, the falling snowflakes brought a cheer with themselves. Everyone was obviously excited on breakfast and probably thankful that it was Saturday.
You were just spreading honey on your toast and looking at students' cheery faces when you felt someone sit next to you. You looked up and were met with two identical red heads. "Fred. George." You greeted your best friends with simple nods and returned to your breakfast
"Y/N, it's snowing." George announced with a broad grin.
You gasped and looked at the boy in shock. "Really George? I haven't noticed. Thanks for telling me, mate." Fred sniggered and George gave you a lopsided smile.
"Fancy going with us for a walk after breakfast?" Fred asked you and reached for a bacon to put on the slice of bread in front of him.
"A tempting offer." You pretended to think about it, swinging your head from left to right and earning eye rolls from the twins, who already knew your answer. "Okay. Fine. Not like I have anything better to do anyway." George let out a cheer and you laughed at his silliness.
You had become friends with the two goofballs back in first year. The boys had declared that they will be your best friends during your first Charms class. The rest was history. --------
Half an hour later you were waiting for the twins with your warmest clothes on. You jumped and let out a small shriek when someone suddenly appeared behind you and put their hands on your shoulder. Two familiar laughs filled the air and you turned around to glare at the twins.
Fred, who was the closest to you so you assumed he was the one that scared you, was doubling in laughter. George was leaning on the wall, wiping a tear from his eye. And then there was you, not understanding what was so funny and glaring fiercely.
"You done yet?" You barked but got no answer. You huffed and started walking towards the oak doors. You heard footsteps and laughter behind you, a sure sign that the twins were following.
You groaned and turned to the duo. "Will you stop it?"
"Okay, okay." George said, trying to compose himself under your harsh gaze. Fred on the other hand giggled again. "Okay. We've stopped. officially."
You waited a couple more seconds, until they actually stopped laughing, and fell in step with them. "So where are we going?"
"On a walk." Fred answered your question in a 'duh' tone and flicked your temple. You decided to ignore it, for Fred's sake.
Soon you were out in the crisp winter air. Snowflakes danced in the sky, graciously falling to the ground. The three of you decided to walk towards one of the trees, covered in snow, near the Black lake.
"Let's have a snowball fight." Fred randomly suggested.
You raised your eyebrow at him. "A snowball fight? We are not children." You crossed your arms. Before you knew it, Fred was throwing a snowball at you. And it hit you. On the face.
He started laughing while his twin muttered "Oh, thank goodness, I was getting bored." But then Fred's grin morphed in a shocked expression as you hit him with a ball. You let out an excited yell and jumped in joy.
You turned just in time to see George forming a ball between his hands. You had enough time to duck so it hit the tree behind you.
You ran away quickly, searching for a place to hide. The closest tree was the best option so you snuck behind it and crouched to get snow. "You are on, Weasley." You yelled and threw the ball at one of them. They were fast enough to escape it and laugh.
A ball flew towards you and you moved just enough so it hit you on the arm. You threw another ball, running before you could see if it reached a target.
Snow was flying from everywhere.
Some time later, a twin had turned his back on you, presenting a miraculous opportunity. As quietly as possible, you made your way towards the boy and dropped a snowball down the inside of his jacket. He yelped and jumped to face you with fire in his eyes, and with satisfaction you noticed that it was Fred. You started laughing at his horrified expression, doubling over. Oh how the tables have turned.
"Y/N." He yelped your name which made you laugh even more. Fred was now pouting with crossed arms.
The two of you didn't notice George and his master plan. He had remembered that he was a wizard and had enchanted a few snowballs to fly your direction and hit the both of you. The boy started sniggering while the two of you started running.
"Georgie, this isn't fair!"
"Yeah! No magic!"
"You're just saying that because you didn't think of this before me."
A few curses escaped your lips as the balls continued to chase you around. George was charming even more and laughing evilly at the side, clearly very much enjoying your distress.
"This is not fun!"
"What are you talking about? I'm having lots of fun."
"George!"
The ginger rolled his eyes. "Okay." He waved his wand. "But only because I'm the greatest and most generous brother and best friend to ever exist."
"Sure you are." You muttered, finally stopping to take a break. Fred was next to you, glaring at his twin. "Maybe we should go back ti the castle." You suggested missing the warmth that the Gryffindor common room provided.
It took some convincing and a few sneezes (from everyone) to get the boys to agree and the three of you were making your way to the castle. It was even more freezing now that you were soaked.
Hogwarts was full of chatting students, some dressed for outside and some who were obviously planning to stay in.
The Gryffindor common room was as welcoming and cozy as ever. Fred shooed some first years off the couch near the fire and you plopped down on it before any of the guys could, taking all the space. George groaned while his twin glared at you before sitting on your feet. Your eyes widened. "Fred get up, you heavy arse!" The words only caused him to giggle but he did push himself up and you sat up so he could seat next to you.
Fred gasped. "Traitor!" He called out to his brother who had sat on another couch with Angelina, Alicia and Katie. He winked back at the two of you. You stuck your tongue out, ever so maturely.
When you turned back around, you noticed that the ginger sitting next to you was staring at you. He didn't seem fazed that you caught him staring, instead he gave you a lazy grin. You returned a smile despite the blush crawling up your neck.
You leaned back on the couch, enjoying the warmth that the fireplace in front of it provided. "A wild morning, huh?" You grinned towards Fred.
The Gryffindor grinned back. "Yeah. Always a pleasure to beat you and George at snowball fight."
You raised an eyebrow. "Win? Lying is a sin, Freddie." He flicked your arm. "We all know that I was the real winner." The two of you went of for a few minutes just teasing each other and erupting in laughter. It was always fun with Fred.
"No you didn't." You exclaimed after one of the boy's many stories and were already covering your mouth to not let the giggles slip.
"Yeah, I did." He nodded to confirm his own words and smiled. That's when you noticed how close the two of you were. And truly, Fred's eyes were a beautiful shade of blue. Your gaze accidentally fluttered down to his lips but you quickly brought it back to his eyes, only to realise that you were caught. He was smirking. Smirking. A part of you started screaming at that but then every thought stilled because he was leaning in. You decided that it wasn't a bad idea at all and did as well.
"Time for lunch chaps!" A hand landed on your shoulder and you jumped. George. You and Fred had separated, both not expecting the sudden rude interruption, and by the look on George's face he knew very well what he did.
You glared at him.
"George!"
