Prologue

The summer day was greeted by the cool evening of the desert. Amelia and James were greatful that Urik, the Rakian doctor, had found a way to make normal human contacts cover up their strangely colored eyes. Amelia's eyes, with the contacts covering her now normal silver eyes, became blue again; James' teal eyes were transformed into his birth eyes, green. Urik even was willing to make a pair for Jerry, his red eyes needed them the most; his eyes became a dirty hazel, however he had such difficulty putting them on.

Rakian techinology always amazed Amelia, for she, James and Jerry weren't the only ones gazing at the bright, flashing lights of the famous Las Vegas Strip. Neston, the auburn dog that closely resembles a siberian husky, was in a human disguise, to accompany the humans on their evening stroll. Amelia knew that the real reason was so he could keep an eye on them, by The Admiral's orders. This was the first time in months that any of them had the chance to just roam around the streets, not worrying about the Jusnors messing with them. Jerry was thrilled to hear that they would be able to leave the Rakian base, but wasn't to keen on the idea of hiding his mechincal wings though. The whole reason he wanted to leave the base was to fly, to get lost in his thoughts, but considering his once high rank among the Jusnors, The Admiral doesn't like the idea of Jerry being alone outside the base. Plus, Jerry wasn't exactly on good terms with either the Rakians or humans; after four years living with the Jusnor Ses, Jerry was convinced himself that he is no longer a human. So, naturally, he has such a blood thrist to kill both speices.

After a long stroll through the busy streets on Las Vegas Boulevard and very eventful visit at the AdventureDoom, James was begining to get ansty to ride the few attractions on the top of the Stratosphere.

"Come on, Amelia!" James sudden turned around and grabbed her thin arms. He lightly yanked at them, like a small child, and whinned. "Who knows where we'll be able to come here again?! We gotta at least ride the roller coaster!"

Amelia rolled her light blue eyes and allowed herself to be dragged by James towards the 20 stories high hotel resort. Jerry and Neston exchanged a glance at each other and reluntlessly chased after them.

Once they reached there, Amelia refused to ride any rides; she wasn't a big fan of heights. She remained in the lower deck and looked, with some distance, through the windows and made it her personal challenge to hide the Rakian base; solely to entertain herself.

Neston, still in his human disguise, eventually rejoined with Amelia on the lower level. He tryed to follow her glance, but he didn't understand what she was staring at.

"What are you looking for?"

"Just looking," she said without turning her head. They remained silent and they both stared in about the same direction, just enjoying the open space and time together. Amelia began watching the man on the ledge, whom was cleaning the glass windows that over-looked Las Vegas. He seemed a little odd, but she thought that she was being paranoid. For the past few nights, she had nightmares about leaving her friends to die; that was continually knawing at her. With the device hidden in her neck, she never knew when to take dreams seriously or simply as dreams.

The odd window-washer humbled away, to the next one, just as Amelia felt a familar presence approach from behind. It was a snotty girl form school that always gave Amelia crap for being new to school. By the feeling in her gut, Amelia knew that she was accompanied by her two friends.
