I never had a journal before. But at least I'm out of jail. I got adopted by Miri Hisurito.  She is the same age as me. Is she also an orphan?

"Are you an orphan?" I asked.

"Funny. No. I am not an orphan. My Mum is at a meeting. My Dad left me at a young age. So Mum just told me to pick you up." Miri said.

We were walking past a bean cake stall. The owner's back was turned so I reached for a bean cake and Miri's hand slapped mine. It hurt! Alot.

Note to self: Don't underestimate Miri's strength.

"You can just ask." She dug out some money from her bag and paid the owner. We got bean cakes.

Yes!

"Seriously. Do you steal everything?" She asked.

"No. I just steal to survive. I stole stuff when I lived on the streets."

"Well you can stop stealing now. You have a home."

I shrugged. I have never been in this part of the city before. I looked at the small patches of snow that formed on the ground. The brown leaves were slowly falling to the ground.

It felt like years since I got arrested. All of the outside world I could see was through small bars.

There was awkward silence between us until we stopped at a gate.

The bars on the gate was designed like vines. The black gate was coated with snow, Miri stepped forward and opened the metal mailbox on the wall next to the gate.

Inside was a pin pad instead of a hollow area for mail.

"Why is there a pin pad... there?"

"To deceive thieves like you." She entered a pin and the gates whirred to life and opened slowly.

Behind the gates stood a polished stone mansion. The front garden was massive with neatly trimmed hedges with large oak trees standing here and there. Under the biggest oak tree was a petite cafe setting for two. But the hedges and trees were losing leaves because of the cold wind.

Miri walked down the gravel pathway to the mansion doors.

"Hurry up." She ordered.

I nodded and ran after her.

Was it a dream? Was I going to live here?

"Wait so is this my home?" I asked.

"Duh. Where else?" She said turning the key.

I stayed silent.

"How many rooms?" I asked.

"34. Including the indoor spa, swimming pool, the kitchen and the 5 toilets."

"34? Seriously?"

"Mmhm. Or do you have a problem?"

I shook my head and entered the palace that I had only dreamed of.
