I’ll Keep My Secret Close
I'll keep my secret close,
Close to my heart,
I'll keep my secret close,
Close to where it starts,
I'll keep my secret close
Just until your gone,
I'll keep my secret close,
Until you can prove me wrong,
I'll keep my secret close,
Where I know it will be safe from you.

Iris sat the pencil down rubbing the back of her neck. The dreams had started a week after her sixteenth birthday. She had been a regular teenage girl until that day. Going to parties, hanging with her friends, loving life but now, now life was different. She flashed back to that night now remembering every painful detail. She had been at her best friend James’s birthday party, when it had first happened. It always began the same way, with a sharp pain erupting from deep within her head, slowly moving it’s way to her eyes causing her vision to blur, then finally she would just black out. That was when the dreams would come. Fast and usually unclear.
James had always loved karaoke, so they were all taking turns singing songs that night. She had already picked the perfect song, but she had never gotten the chance to sing it. As soon as she had stood up, she had hit the floor. She remembered James screaming her name begging her to wake up, Molly his sister calling nine-one-one, Jane, his youngest sister, screaming for her mom, and Karrie James’s mother rushing in to see what had happened. By the time the ambulance had arrived she had become completely unresponsive. Then it had started. The first one wasn’t as bad, she had simply been drifting in a small boat in the ocean with a small child. He was dirty and skinny and looked like he hadn’t eaten in days, but more than any thing else he was scared. He was so scared. She didn’t just think he was she knew he was. She couldn’t explain it but she knew she was right. All he wanted was to go home to his mommy and daddy and especially his little old teddy. She felt the tears forming in her eyes as she reached for the boy. Wanting to comfort him but instead passing right through him. She tried again but she just passed through like she had before. She then tried calling out to him but no sound came out. She was scared now, she couldn’t help him. Every fibber in her body was screaming at her to help him but she couldn’t. Then the boy had turned. Not much but the small change had given her the chance to see his face, and she knew him. No she thought. It couldn’t be. This was the boy who had gone missing three days before. There were flyers with his face on them all over town. This is crazy she had thought. She hadn't even met this kid. Why was she dreaming about him? She looked around confused as she recognized that they were floating in one of back channels of the small branch of river that ran through the woods just outside of her hometown. No it couldn't be she thought. He had gone missing three days ago. He would have turned back by now if he was this close to town. Something was wrong. The motor. She turned slowly, not sure if she could tip the boat or not. The motor wasn't there. It looked as though something or someone had ripped it off. No not ripped, the edges were way to straight. Someone had done this on purpose. Just as she realized this, she began falling, faster and faster, then she landed hard nocking the breath out of her. Gasping for breath she sat up, the room was spinning, when her vision finally cleared she was in a hospital room surrounded by people.
"The boy I was with him." She gasp still trying to catch her breath. "I know where he is!"
James jumped to his feet steading her. "whoa there sparky." he had given her that silly nickname when she was five because of my firey temper. "Where do you think your going?"
"The River." she said pushing him away.
"I don't think so." a tall man with a scruffy beared, said walking into the room, closely followed by her mom and stepfather. "You just went into a coma. If you think you are leaving this room you are crazy!"
"I don't have time for this doc." she said brushing past him.
"Listen to the doctor you little brat." her stepfather said stepping into her path.
She didn't have time for this, she thought frantically, the boy could be floating further down the river. Turning back to James, she let the tears into her eyes. "James. Please. The boy. He'll die." As soon as the first tear fell she had him.
"Rob it's fine. I'll go with her. Once she's found this 'Boy' I'll bring her back, and the doc can check her out."
"Please be quick James." Her mom spoke for the first time.
"Of course Hannah. I'll have her back in an hour or so." James said following Iris out the door.
