A/N: idek what this is but have fun reading c:
Without Kya, things were getting complicated. Ezra had to look after the twins more now since her dad stopped taking time off work. Both parents came back late most days, even more so than usual. All Ezra could think of was how much Kya would have loved that because it would have made it much easier to sneak out. But, Kya's sneaking out and then their eventual discovery of everything going wrong because of that was the main reason they were working late now, Ezra assumed. She really wished there was someone there to help her.
Panicking was much more difficult now, too. She couldn't just wait for Kya to help her out now, because Kya was too far away. Ezra had to work through things herself, and it was exhausting. Sometimes she would slowly slip into it downstairs with the twins, and although they didn't know what was going on, they would hug her and mumble to her until she seemed to be normal again. In a way, it was something she didn't think she could ever repay them for.
School, for once, was supposed had been like a break from that. At the least she would had a fixed routine and some people to surround herself with. On the second day of this escape, she had English first, and her stomach fluttered at the thought of seeing Luke.
Except, she didn't see Luke. She waited at her desk alone for the whole lesson, somehow expecting him to turn up extremely late. She couldn't help but feel like something was wrong, and so her lesson was spent staring out of the window, searching in the distance for him as if he would be waiting.
Someone was whispering to the person in front of her. She tried to pretend she wasn't listening, but she couldn't hear what was being said anyway. She leaned forward a little.
"What, no way!" The boy in front her exclaimed. The girl talking to her nodded. She was grinning proudly, enjoying the fact that she knew something he didn't.
"Apparently he tried to drag Tina out too," the girl whispered. Her tone of voice sounded like the embodiment of can you believe it?!
Ezra stopped breathing for a moment. If they were talking about Tina, they must have been talking about Luke too. What had happened with Luke? What did 'drag Tina out' mean? She couldn't really think of an answer, and she could never imagine Luke dragging anywhere Tina at all. All his reactions to her that Ezra had seen were somewhat gentle. The way they were talking made it sound like it wasn't like that though, they were gossiping with so much enthusiasm that Ezra could only assume that they had some kind of dirt on him.
It was about an hour later when she came to the realisation that it was not only those two kids in her English class who thought they knew what had happened with Luke. It was all anyone seemed to be talking about.
"There was a massive truck coming," someone had said.
"Didn't anyone stop him?" someone else asked.
"Probably tried to," the first person replied, "but he wanted to get hit. I think he wanted the others to get hit too."
"What a freak."
Ezra tried not to stare as she walked past everyone talking about him. She wanted to know as much about the situation as possible, but none of the information was matching up, and no one was explicitly saying what he had done, but they seemed to have a lot to say about his motives behind it. From what Ezra had heard though, she feared the worst.
By the time she sat down to lunch with Feyre and McKenna, it was all anyone was talking about. As her two friends began getting their lunches out, Ezra could only watch. The churning in her stomach had gotten rid of any desire she had to eat. Feyre's attention was called for by someone on the end of the table. There was already a very lively conversation going on there, and, of course, they seemed to be talking about Luke.
