The calm

I woke up with a horrible pain in my stomach. I held my side while I tossed and turned in bed. I wonder where that came from all of a sudden. After the pain subsided I got up and quickly undressed to go shower. Before stepping into the cold water I checked my stomach to see if I had a bruise or anything, oddly enough nothing was there. Maybe my period was gonna start soon? Probably so. Oh well.

After taking an average amount of time in the shower I dried off and had gotten dressed in a dark blue skater dress and my combat boots with white thigh socks. I moved the curtains from the glass doorway letting in the light from the outside. Slowly I walked onto the balcony and took in the sun's warming embrace. I stared at the blue sky hoping I could stay like this forever. Yet my stomach growled, I eventually had to go down stairs to the kitchen to eat breakfast. I left the balcony door open to let in the sun's warmth and gentle winds.

Swiftly I left my room, went downstairs and greeted all the maids and workers in the halls.

"Morning Alice dear, how was your sleep?" She smiled at me radiantly while dusting the hallway.

"Oh, it was lovely thank you Mrs.Spades." I smiled at her warmly.

Mrs.spades was head of the maids and was my personal caretaker, I always saw her as my second mother since my real one was rarely ever here for me. I continued my stroll down the hall as I looked at the weather outside, it almost looked- like a storm was coming soon. You could see it just off the horizon, the dark brim off in the distance.

I hurried my trip to the kitchen for my morning meal, not wanting it to get cold and resulting me in getting sick again. I felt my chest grow heavier and heavier as i continued my walk towards the kitchen. I wonder if I'm coming down with the flu or something. As i turned the corner in the hallway of the kitchen, I heard muffled speaking coming from the Dining room. The voices sounded oddly familiar though but i couldn't quite make them out clearly enough. As much as I needed to eat and not be eavesdropping, my curiosity got the better of me. I steadily made my way towards the dining room. I stopped at the door of the dining room and slightly cracked the door open. For a moment there was silence, then clearly enough I heard the man say

"Charlotte, I'm trying to tell you I'm happier with you" Again there was a long pause.

"Jack I still dont know dont you think this is a bit inappropriate?"

"Charlotte I want to spend my life with you please, I want to marry you."

This was the the part where I started choking on air. My sister was just proposed to. This was the part where I became enraged. I slowly pushed the door open, interrupting the two. Standing there on one knee, was my beloved, who were now banded with engagement rings. Jack stood up.

"And who may you be?" he spoke with a fixed smile on his face.

From that moment I had never been so tempted to commit murder. His innocent act was over.
