The alarm clock on my phone started playing my favourite song. I yawned and got out of bed, bringing my blanket with me. I searched for my phone on the desk placed next to my bed, moving my only free hand all over it, finding my phone.
- Shit, I mumbled. As I was about to press snooze, I remembered what today was. I picked up my phone and turned off the catchy song. It was my first day of college.

I ran to the bathroom, bringing my towel and the outfit I planned yesterday with me. The lock on the door made a loud click as I locked it. I took off my cozy socks and stood on the freezing cold floor. Or at least thats what it felt like. I undressed and jumped in the shower, turning on the hot water.

The thought of college both excited me and scared me. What if it was a lot harder than high school? And what if I didn't fit in? What if the girl I was going to live with would hate me? No, I thought. I have to think positive. Today was going to be great!

I got out of the shower, drying my hair with a towel. I put on a pair of black short shorts and cute white tanktop. Picking up my phone, I pressed play on an album by one of my favorite male singers. Humming along to the song, I put on my makeup and put my hair in a quick messy bun. I then went to the kitchen to make a quick cup of coffee before I left.

Picking up my brown shoulder bag and putting on brown ankle boots, I strolled out the door to catch the bus. I gave my watch a quick glare.

07.47 am

I was late! I had to hurry up now. Right when I started running I saw the bus passing by me. What a great start to the day, I thought, sighing. I figured it would be faster to run there than waiting a half an hour on the bus, so I grabbed my shoulderbag and started running.

Now, I wasn't exactly the most athletic type. I basically hated running and especially in public. But I didn't care right in that moment. I couldn't be late for my first class, and I wanted to make a good impression on my new teachers.

I followed the directions along the small suburban streets. The streets were so peaceful and quiet. I saw a mailman drive by, throwing the newspapers hitting every single front door neatly.

I arrived to campus, breathing heavily from all the running, stopping for a second to look a sign which had a big picture of the campus map on it. I walked in the direction of my classroom. I wanted to walk slowly and check everything on campus out, but first I had to go to my first class. I was told we were being introduced to some of our new teachers today. I looked at my watch again.

08.05 am

Yup, I was late. I took off my backpack and rummaged impatiently through it, searching for my college guide. B14, was the classroom I had to go to. I put on my backpack again and ran inside the building. Walking down the hall, I read the numbers on the doors.

B02, B04, B06, B08...

And then I found it.

B14.

I opened the door silently and peeked inside to see how many people there were and how quiet it was in there. There were about 30 people in there, sitting with their computers, in complete silence. The teacher was male, he had grey hair and was maybe in his 50's or 60's and he obviously knew how to handle a class well. Back in high school the teachers didn't have any clue on how to get the crowds to shut up, but maybe it also had something to do with maturity level of the students.

I silently sneaked into the classroom and skimmed the room for a spot. Almost all of them were taken. I spotted one in the back. As I was about to go sit down on the spot I found, the teacher cleared his throat, obviously trying to get me to turn around.
- Sorry, Mr.-...
- Anderson, he said, raising and eyebrow.
- Right. I missed the bus and I-...
- No time for excuses, sit down Miss...?
- Jackson. Valerie Jackson., I said, walking to the back of the class.
- No, no, Miss Jackson, you can sit in the front., He said, giving me a smile. He was obviously enjoying embarressing me in front of everyone.
I sighed and turned around to walk back to the front. I put down my backpack and grabbed my notebook and pencilcase.
