"It was a simple interview." I admitted to Vanessa. Her arms were crossed beneath her chest as we walked up to Dwayne's for the first time since Thanksgiving. I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pulled her into me.

"One that I was unaware of, Justin."

"Aren't you happy for me?" I questioned with a small frown. Vanessa seemed to appear happy at first, but after the interview was said and done, it was clear it was still bothering her. The thought of Ryan was bothering her. I couldn't help but analyze her throughout the entire night.

"I am happy for you. For one, it was your first interview, I'm beyond proud. Plus, the footage came out well. Ryan's crew did a nice job. I just didn't know that it was with him." She huffed.

"The footage? That was all me. What do you mean?" I joked. The videography club did a fantastic job, but cracking a smile out of Vanessa was all I needed. The interview and the extra footage was done and said for, I wanted to enjoy this night with her without worrying about Ryan.

"Still. Ryan." She managed to get out as she analyzed the people that walked in and out of Dwayne's house.

"Great video from the other day man."

"Hilarious."

"Solid ten out of ten."

Were a few comments I received as Van and I stalked through the usual crowd. Westend was crazy for me and I appreciated the love. Daps and attempted side hugs from females (which I declined) and settled for a high five out of respect for Vanessa were being thrown at me left and right. All I wanted was some food and the opportunity to dance with my girl.

Van still needed reassurance, even after our conversation outside. Chewing the inside of my cheek I opened my mouth.

"Hey, it was one interview. It's not like Ryan and I are buddies. The footage came out nice, he's very talent. That doesn't mean we'll be friends. He's not going to turn me into an alcoholic. Is that what you're worried about?" My brows began to furrow as the words rolled off of my tongued.

"I don't want to talk about it." She frowned. As much as I wanted to push her into elaborating, I didn't. She would explain when she was ready.

I caught Dwayne dancing for the first time. It was like the kid had a full routine going on and a few eyes fell onto him. Dwayne seemed to disappear at his own functions. Everyone knew he was here, but he wasn't seen unless he wanted to be seen. However, now that Party was playing, the spot light was essentially on him. I was glad the spot light was on someone else this time. Once I realized his guys weren't searching for me as they made their rounds throughout the house, I felt a weight disappear from my shoulders.

A low groan escaped Van's lips, "Gucci really?"

"Lil mama booty boomin'." I teased, causing her lips to part. I couldn't help but hunch over, tears forming at the brim of my eyes.

"Justin, that's not funny." She chimed, hitting my chest with her harmless fist as I fixed myself.

"It was hilarious."

My hands reached for her waist as Abel's voice slowly panned in. A playful glint was evident in her eyes. This song was upbeat in a settle way, but most of my man's part was toned down a bit until the end of his verse. I knew from the start it was his solo to Gifted. Van's hips moved with ease and her arms were wrapped loosely around my neck. I couldn't help but stare into her warm eyes. She was gorgeous, but she wasn't the same Van I had known at the beginning of this year. People change, of course, but when an addiction is involved, it's relatively hard. Especially since her mindset wasn't where it should've been. I smiled down at her before placing a long kiss on her forehead. I was beyond proud of my baby girl. She was happier and that's all I wanted. I wanted a genuine smile to greet her face.

I started to think more in depth as the songs faded in and faded out. Her father hated me and he didn't even know me. I wasn't the type to show any disrespect, but I found myself mentally calling him out of his name. What was to happen if he found out about us? I didn't know exactly what Van's father did, but he didn't appear like a man anyone would be fond enough of to bother. I asked myself what would happen to her genuine smile? The real her would be nonexistent and I didn't know how to feel about it.

"Babe?"

"Hmm."

"Are you ok? What were you thinking about?"

"Just how glad I am to call you mine." A small blush creped onto her face and I couldn't help but kiss her delicate nose. I didn't know how long things would look up for us as bad as it sounds. I was determined to enjoy the moment though.
