Chapter 1

I was riding  home from school, with my best friend Char. I got home to my ranch and got on my sisters horse, to exercise her.  Char stayed on her horse, so we could ride together for a bit. But, as soon as we started riding I got a phone call. It was my sister. "Who is it?" Char asked. "Natalie," I replied. "Hello?," I ask. "Emma!, where are u? Didn't you get my texts?" She says urgently. "Ohh, no I was at school sorry," I say "what's wrong?" " It's mom and dad. They're in the hospital," she says. "What?!?!" I yell. "Which hospital?" I ask. "The one in Toronto, how fast can you get here?" She replies. "Umm... probably an hour." I say, " I'll have to get gas,". I shut off my phone. "Hey Char," I say "Can you come to Toronto?" I ask. "Umm... ya, why?" "I'll explain on the way," I say,"Get in the truck."

We were still in the truck, about ten minutes away. I had already explained to Char what happened. I pulled into the lot, paid for parking, and me and Char got out of the car. We walked inside. "Umm... hi. I need to see my parents. " I told the lady at the front desk. "Oh, what is your last name?" She asked. "Hansimber." I told her. "Ok," she says. "Follow me." She said, walked over to another nurse, who then sat at the front desk, then started walking to a room. Inside, Nat was crying beside our parents. She looked up. "They were shot," she said. "What?!," I cry, "what happened?" I asked. "A guy was pointing a gun at mom, then dad jumped in the way, then fell to the floor and the guy shot mom." She said. "How do you know this?" I asked. "I was there, hidden in the shadows, Mom and Dad were walking home, from work with me, and just as they turned a corner, the guy was there. From the position I was in I could watch, without being seen." She said. Char sat on a bench. "Do you want me to stay?" She asked. "No, you can go home, we'll be fine, thanks anyway," I tell her.
