Her chest tightens at the memory of it. The one incident that changed her life and her friend's life as well. Although she saved her that day, Olivia backed away until she completely disappeared from Jane's life. A behavior Jane could never understand.
Unable to get over that friendship, Jane left the town, left her family and her job as well in an attempt to start afresh. Her mother refused to see her goodbye cause she believed it's unsafe for her 24 years old daughter to live alone, let alone in another town. Jane then was too empty, too hollow to care or even listen to anyone really; she thought it best for her to be away from everything she's familiar with, people, lovers, places, the memories. She finally settled in a town that she's never been to before and fortunately enough she got a job at a local university there, teaching 19th century literature. She didn't really care about what she taught in lectures. She would assign the students different tasks and make them do most of the job. They viewed her lecture as dull, devoid of any literary sense but she couldn't care less.
****
Five years into teaching and nothing has changed in her. She lost contact with her family two years after moving out, they didn't seem to care anymore or was it her that didn't care?!! She barely made any friends also. She was so closed on herself she barely trusted anyone. So she was alone and she somehow got used to the feel of it.
Everything seemed fine until one day a new student was transferred to the college she's in. It was almost the end of the term when he arrived. As a part of the teaching staff, she was informed beforehand. His name was Oliver Jones.
She didn't give it much thought. It's just another student, another number in her class and an extra essay to mark. It seemed so until he entered the class, a tall delicate figure, a brown hair, with a little stubble on his chin, and green, almost brownish eyes. Those pair of eyes reminded her of someone, someone she's burried in the furthest place of her memories but never had the guts to forget. It's then that she knew her life won't be as easy as it started to be.
