-Sheila-I bury my face in my hands. Ugh, this is too much.
Beep.
My phone. As if I didn't have enough to worry about. "Hello. This is Agent Knight speaking," I say sweetly. "Hello. Detective, we have another lead. You're gonna wanna see this," comes a male voice.
"Lead. For what case. Look, I'm still working on the disappearance of Leo Typhus. I mean, I know that it was a year ago, but I still wanna know what happened to the guy. You said all your team found was ashes?" I ask.
"Yep. Actually, we found a bunch of dead bodies in the kitchen and some outside. Like a shootout had happened. Also a man was cut up down the road. Even more interesting was the tag on all of the men. M.O.D." He said.
"Mod?" I ask. "No, Masters of Disaster, the agency." He says, impatiently.
"I knew that, I was just joking. I've put away a ton of M.O.D. members. Anyway, you think our boy, Leo, had something to do with the MOD?" I ask.
"Must've had to, cause he sure put a damn good number of them down. Anyways, why are you so worked up about this case, it's closed. Been closed for about a year. Face it, he's gone."
"I knew Leo, from school. I was couple grades higher than him though. I used to tutor him too. I remember how he was when his sister died."
"You mean when he killed his sister. Anyway, I have a lead on your other case. I'm sending you a picture of the suspect a witness identified."
He hangs up, and I wait for the picture to come through. Finally it comes and I open it.
I drop the phone down and stare at the picture. I sigh, exasperated. I pick it up and redial the detective. He answers on the first ring.
"Detective, this girl is dead. This picture is Georgia Sanders, and she died 7 years ago. She was murdered with Jane Pogo, the sister of Leo."
"So you're saying that Leo killed both of them. Wow, this guy must have a heart of ice. Saratoga's probably safer without him-"
"HE DID NOT KILL THEM, OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!" I yell.
"Yeesh, you're a little defensive. You said you were tutoring him, what were you guys studying?"
I gasp. "How dare you!?!?!" I yell, but he just chuckles and hangs up.
I lay back again, and think. Oh, Leo where are you? I did have a lead on that case. A neighbor said they saw Andrew Falker and Thomas Glenwood entering Leo's mansion around the time when he disappeared, but I can't find Andrew either. He quit the Omega Rebellion after Autumn Summers died.
I sigh and decide to head down to the jailing unit of this space base. I go to one of the holding cells. "Hello, Derek," I say, to the man sitting on the cot, reading a magazine about explosions. "Hiya, Sheila," he says without looking up. Derek loves explosions. That's why he's here. He never hurts anyone with his explosions, but he still disturbs the peace quite a bit, so he's already started bringing beer, magazines (about explosions of course), a TV, board games, snacks, and more things to make his cell feel comfortable. It's time for him to go now, though.
I stick the key into the lock, and open the cell door. He looks at his watch and slides his magazine under the cot. I stare at him as he walks out and I lock the cell back. "Well, I guess I'll probably see you tomorrow, right?" I say. He shrugs. "I don't know. I'm looking for a book." I guess I know where this is going.
"About explosions, more than likely," I say. I do a double-take when he shakes his head.
"Spells. Dark spells," he says. I squint. "Dark spells? What do you mean?" I ask. This could be a major breakthrough for my case about the Dark Magic Killer, DMK. He just shakes his head. "Nothing. Me and my big mouth. Anyways, take care, mate," he says patting my shoulder as he heads for the exit.
"Yeah. You too, " I murmur thinking. Maybe I should follow him. Nah. Maybe he'll tell me next time. I sure hope so, because so far this case has been nothing but a dead end.
