-Derek-I look up into the trees to see a boy with white hair looking down at me. He has a mischievous smile as he twirls the book around. "Who are you?" I ask. He shrugs. "I don't know. I think my name's Leo. Leo Typhus."
He thinks? "You think?" Again he shrugs. "Where'd you come from, mate?" I ask.
He points to a patch of dirt, next to a tree, left of the one I'm sitting at. "I think I crawled up right there. I don't really remember."
"What? What were ya doing down there, mate?" I ask, scratching my head.
He looks at me puzzled. "Climbing to the surface. What do you think I was doing down there, digging for grub? Besides, I didn't crawl through the dirt. I climbed out of a fiery portal right there."
I shake my head. "Are you a mutant?" He shakes his head. "Then how does a regular human just come out of a fiery portal?"
He shows a mischievous smile again. "Who says I'm a human?"
I shrug. "Well you look like one," I point out. He snickers.
"Looks can be deceiving." He flashes a skull ring on his right hand. It starts to glow a little. "This isn't my true form. This is." His eyes begin to glow with fire as his face burns off. After his face burns, his head turns the color of a dark misty smoke. His eyes are red, and his mouth is the mouth you would carve on a jack'o'lantern, and it's also red. He's still wearing the same clothes, a white hoodie and white and black joggers.
His head blazes with fire surrounding it. He laughs. "This is my true form." Even his voice sounds upgraded. It sounds like some kind of echo, like three different voices talking at once.
I'm impressed. "What are you? Some kind of alien?" I ask, intrigued.
"An arch-demon, but you can call me Freak. GhostFreak. God, I love that name."
He looks back at me and I'm sure he knows I'm about to pamper him with questions. He holds up his hands. "Why don't we play a game," he says.
"What game?" I ask.
He suddenly freezes and it's like one of those moments on Final Jeporady. "Uh, I was getting to that. Anyways, I don't have a name for it, but every time I answer one of your questions, you have to answer one of mine."
"Uh, deal, I guess," I say. Anyways, I guess I'm first. "Were you always a demon?"
He shakes his head. " I was a human, last year, until- I think I've already answered your question."
No. I've overheard Detective Knight working on this case about a missing Leo, I wanna help her out. I just need to find out what happened to him. "Until what? Were you murdered? Commit suicide? I got it, you saw something you weren't supposed to see? Y-y-you-"
"Ah, ah, ah, It's my turn. Now. What's the big deal about this book?"
I shrug. "Why don't you just open it and see?"
"I don't remember how to read, and you just used up your next question, so it's my turn again. Haha, take THAT!!!!! So, for my next question. Um, How did you-, why can't-, who did- Oh forget it, Do you love me?"
"What?"
He waves it off. "I'm just messing with ya. Anyways, for my real question, How do-""Uh, uh, uh, Don't think so, mate. I believe it's my turn. You just used your question."
"But that was just a j-" Suddenly a tree above him catches fire. "I think I'd better turn back to my human form, before Smokey the Bear shows up trying to maul me." His ring begins to glow, and soon his human skin begins to fill across his body until he's back to normal. He cracks his neck. "Ah, that's better."
"Okay, okay, my turn. How'd you get out of hell?"
"Well it all went like this. A little after I got-, after I wound up in hell, I was a lost boy. This arch demon named Zephyr, took pity on me and offered me a quest. He gave me a new demon form, as you saw, and told me that my quest was to kill some men for him. You see he had a human girlfriend, who had been killed by a group of men. He ordered me to go hunt them down and kill them. It was an easy quest because of my awesome powers that this demon form gave me, and my past h-. Anyways, I did the mission and when I got back he gave me my prize." He waves the skull ring. "When I was doing the quest, I could only stay out for short periods of time and do exactly as he told me to do, or I'd be plummeted back to hell. But with the ring, I could leave hell and do whatever the hell, haha, I wanted. Also I could keep my demon form along with my powers, but the ring also allowed me to mock any human form I choose. I mainly stick to my human body from before I was m-. Anyways, before I left hell, they threw me a farewell party, and I was just crawling through the portal when I heard an explosion. I crawled through the trees and saw you messing with that car, and that guy chasing after it. Then I watched you run into the house, and I was thinking, 'What is that asshole doing?' Then I watched you run out here, so I followed you from above, then I snatched the book, and here we are. Now, my turn. Did anyone miss me?"
"Well, last year maybe, after you first went missing. Detective Knight is still looking for you. Now, my turn again." I've gotta get some info for Sheila this time. "What happened to you?"
"You mean how I ended up in hell? How I went missing?"
"Yeah, all they found in your house was a pile of ashes."
"Yeah? Well I don't wanna talk about it."
"You have to."
He glares at me. "Says who?"
I smirk. "Says you, mate. As long as I answer your question, you have to answer mine. That's the rule."
He frowns. "I don't like that rule."
I smirk. "You made it. You made the game."
He hops down onto my back. "Time for a new game. Thugs, 6 o'clock."
I look over and see a bunch of men with baseball bats and clubs chasing after a teenager.
"Let's go, mate, " he says, mockingly.
