Chapter 1: I hate you

Amanda wakes up by her alarm at 7:40 am to get ready for school. Her Dad had most likely had already gone to work and her little brother was most likely up with his daughter. Amanda's brother, Lucas girlfriend died in labor giving birth to their daughter, Lily. Lucas girlfriend,  Brooke, had trouble through out the pregnancy and she went into labor later than she was supposed to so that only added to the complications. During birth things were fine until they cut the cord after Lily was getting cleaned up. Brooke, for a reason no one has been able to figure out,  other than her body just gave out, her body just gave out. She died on the spot. Lucas had been struggling in the mornings with how to get Lily to calm down. He Had only had Lily for a year so he was still adjusting to be a dad. Especially since he was starting his sophomore year also. Amanda thinks of him as her younger brother because she is born a month and a half earlier than him. Right as Amanda got out of bed to get dressed, Lily cries echoed throughout the house. Amanda went to Lily's nursery, sometimes Lucas slept right through Lily's cries but this wasn't one of the times. When Amanda got to Lily's nursery Lucas was holding her and trying to calm her but Lily's cries only got more deperate. That's when Lucas spotted Amanda, he smiled grateful. 
"Hey sis", Lucas said.
"Morning," Amanda replied.
Lily looked at Amanda and cried harder. 
"A, I don't know what is wrong with her! She doesn't seem to want anything that I try giving her. She just keeps fighting me, help please," Lucas asked desperately. 
"Okay," Amanda said as she took over and took Lily from Lucas's arms. The minute that Lily was settled in Amanda's arms, she started bouncing and rocking her at the same time. Lily snuggled close into Amanda's arms and fell back asleep.
"She just wanted to go back asleep," Amanda declared. 
Amanda and Lucas left the nursery and let Lily sleep for the time that she does. Amanda went to go make some coffee while Lucas went to take a shower. They both continue to go throughout their day and while Lucas was taking the dogs out Amanda woke Lily up as calmly as she could and got her dressed and ready to go to the daycare they have at the school.
"Lucas hurry up! We have to get going. I have to meet Peyton before class," Amanda announced.
"Why?" Lucas asked. 
"I don't know why. This is Peyton we are talking about here. She just said she wants to talk to me before class so I am meeting her," Amanda said.
"Ugh I don't know why you hang around her," Lucas said in disgust.
"Well you dated her, you know how she is," Amanda said.
Lucas and Brooke and Peyton had a complicated love triangle. It never should have happened with Peyton is how Lucas sees it. He sees Peyton as just one big mistake. For a few months after Brooke died, Lucas made a point to always fight with peyton, even as far as blaming her for the death of Brooke.
"Don't remind me," Lucas said.
"Don't pick jabs at her every time I mention her name and I have to defend her and I won't keep reminding you that you dated her," Amanda said with a smile on her face, knowing that she had won their argument and do every other one that had to do with Peyton.
"Let's just go," Lucas said, as he carries Lily out to the car.  As Lucas straps Lily in, Amanda locks up the house. They leave the house exactly within the right of the time for Lucas to spend some time with Lily before class, also in time for Amanda to meet Peyton by the end of D hall. Amanda sees all the regular people but she sees one guy down there that she doesn't know.
"Hey!" Peyton said.
"Hey, sorry I'm late. Lily was having a little bit of trouble this morning," Amanda explained.
"That comes with having a baby living the same house as you," Peyton said.
"Yeah but you said you wanted me to meet someone," Amanda said.
"Yes I did, there is a guy-" Peyton said.
Amanda dragged Peyton off to the side a little, away from their friends. 
"Are you kidding me?" Amanda said.
"What?" Peyton asked.
"I told you I didn't want to date at all this year. I appreciate you wanting to help but I don't want to date anyone okay?" Amanda said.
"Can you please just meet the guy, at the very least you make a new friend," Peyton asked.
"Okay I guess it wouldn't hurt making new friends," Amanda decided.
Peyton took over to the guy that Amanda didn't know.
"Amanda, this is Nathan Smith. Nate, this is Amanda, my best friend," Peyton Said.
"HI I'm Amanda," Amanda said.
"Hi, I'm Nathan," Nathan said.
The bell right as Amanda and Nathan shook hands, as if to say we are now friends.  They both felt a spark when they touched, and as oddly as it was, neither of them wanted to release. They knew nothing about each other but they felt something between them.
When they finally did let go, they went on to class but they both felt that something was different. There was obviously something there but Amanda didn't know if she could risk it again. Amanda went on with her day and that night after she fed Lily since Lucas was out, and put Lily to bed, Amanda went in her room with the baby monitor and put her music on when her phone buzzed. She had a message request from, Nathan Smith. 
Nathan: Hey😉
Amanda: Hi.
Nathan: How are you?
Amanda: Good. I just fed and put a baby down without getting a headache.
Nathan : A baby? You have a baby?
Amanda: Oh God no. I mean I love Lily to death but she isn't mine. She is my brothers. His girlfriend and him had Lily about a year ago.
Nathan : So where is her mom?
Amanda: She died while in labor. 
Nathan: Oh, I'm sorry.
Amanda: It's okay you didn't know.
Nathan: So I think we should go out sometime?
Amanda: Are you asking me out?
Nathan: Trying to. I'm failing miserably though.
Amanda : Maybe just a little bit. 
Nathan: Go out with me?
Amanda : Okay.
Nathan : Cool then I will see you tomorrow girlfriend.
Amanda : Yes you will boyfriend. Nathan : Get some rest babygirl.  Amanda : Okay,  good night.
Amanda turns off her phone, she soon falls asleep.
