Red Waves

Red waves

I fell down,

before the flaming locks of golden wheat,

the flames licked without mercy

 on the undefended gold,

starting at the bottom and snaking there way up

it ate with a vengeance,

leaving no stalk untouched,

I sat struck with awe

just watching as the flames consumed,

I saw the red waves come and leave

leaving ashes of the burnt gold in their wake,

as I saw the flames coming toward me

I sat as still as stone,

then they came with buckets of water

turning the red waves to black clouds,

the clouds twisted and turned,

yet when the waves left I felt a surge of sorrow

for the missing fire then joy,

as the black cleared, and all that I could see,

was the golden wheat untouched by flames,

on the other side
