*ring* The bell went off, marking the end of the school day. Ayana was rushing to get her stuff together and was the first one out of class. She was so happy as she searched the halls for one particular person. "Where are you, Jacob?" Ayana thought to herself. Ayana was an exchange student from Japan, and she had been in the United States for two months.

Ayana recalled how she did not know anyone except for her host sister, Kira, on the first day of school. The other students were making fun of her English, and she had never felt so lonely in her life. So isolated from everyone. One day, while walking to her next class, a boy tripped her in the halls, sending her books flying through the air. The boy then confronted her. It was Toby, the boy who sat right next to her in Art class, but it felt more like sixty minutes of hell to Ayana.

Toby then started to tease Ayana. Every time Ayana tried to get past Toby, Toby would block her way. Just as he was about to tell her his demands, a voice behind him yelled, "Toby!"

Toby looked behind him, "Oh, h-hey J-Jacob. How, how are ya doing, man?" as his voice cracked.

"Why are you tormenting that poor girl? Stop right now or I'll..."

"No! No! I'm going off right now!" Toby said as he ran away.

"Thank you, um, Jacob, right?" Ayana said as Jacob was picking up her stuff.

"No problem, and yeah, I'm Jacob. And Toby may act like he's all tough, but deep down inside, he's a real scaredy cat," Jacob replied as he was handing Ayana her books. "Wow, did you draw this? You're really talented," he said pointing at a drawing of Kirito and Asuna from Sword Art Online that Ayana drew during art.

"Um, yeah," Ayana replied. " I drew my favorite characters from an anime called Sword Art Online, which is about a virtual reality RPG game and players find out they can't logout of the game, and if they die in the game, they die in real life."

"Sounds interesting. Well, I best get going then. See ya later, uh...," Jacob said as he walked to his next class.

"Ayana, and yeah, see ya," Ayana said with a smile.

After that, Ayana made a few friends and developed a special bond with Kira. She also had been following Jacob home without his knowing for the past month, but it was not like Ayana was a stalker or anything. She drew the line at watching him sleep at night from a nearby tree with her binoculars. She wanted him to be her boyfriend. There was just one problem...

"Oh, hey, babe." Ayana finally found Jacob as soon as Kira kissed Jacob. Kira knew Jacob ever since they were three years old in daycare and were best friends. They started dating in junior high. Now, they were both Seniors and still dating. Ayana was a Junior. Ayana pushed her jealousy down and walked over to Kira and Jacob.

"Oh, hey, Ayana! How was your day today?" Kira asked.

"Pretty good," Ayana replied. "Are you walking home with Jacob today?"

"Yep, wanna join us?"

"Sure."

Kira and Ayana only lived three blocks away from the high school while Jacob lived five blocks away. They walked as the first leafs of autumn fell around them. They went by the grade school to pick up Kira's little brother, Thomas. Once they reached home, Kira gave Jacob a kiss and said, "See ya tomorrow, babe. Love ya!"

"Yeah. Love ya too, honey!" Jacob replied.

As they went inside, Kira's pregnant mom, Kimberlee, greeted them. "Hey! How was school?"

"School was alright," Kira replied. "Hey Mom, Matt's coming over today to rehearse the lines for the play so we will be in my room."

"Alright, darling."

Ayana then got an idea. She knew that Matt and Kira were lovers in the play and there was also a scene where they kissed. "This is perfect," Ayana thought. Ayana tried to hide the malicious smile that formed across her face, but found it difficult. When Matt came over, Ayana got out her phone and went by Kira's room. She waited until they got to the part where Matt's character confessed his undying love to Kira's character. Ayana started recording the audio on her phone and even picked up the sound of them kissing. Ayana was thankful that the scene did not mention the names of Kira's and Matt's characters as she hit "Send" to Jacob.

The next day, an angry Jacob confronted the unsuspecting Kira as he walked through the halls. "You're cheating on me with Matt?"

Kira was confused. "No. Why would I when you are the one for me?"

"Don't lie to me! Ayana sent me proof that you were with Matt and that you loved each other 'more than the entire world.'"

"What? That doesn't make any-" Kira then remembered about the play, "Oh, wait! It's not what it sounds like. I can explain!"

"There's nothing to explain, Kira. We're done!"

"Jacob!" A heartbroken Kira cried out as Jacob walked down the hall. Ayana, who stood watching the whole thing, felt slightly guilty, but she was happy that she could have Jacob all to herself now. Ayana then gradually got closer to Jacob and eventually started dating. Ayana was addicted to how he made her feel. However, Kira grew cold and distant towards Ayana. Ayana then felt so much guilt for breaking the bond that she and Kira formed. By the time the school year was almost over, Kira would not speak or even look at Ayana.

On the day that Ayana went to the airport for the flight back to Japan, Kimberlee, Kimberlee's five month old daughter, Katie, Thomas, and Jacob said their goodbyes and exchanged hugs with Ayana. Jacob told Ayana that he will visit her next summer in Japan and that they can Skype each other. Little did he know that Ayana planted a bug in his phone to make sure that he would not cheat on her in college. However, there was one person that was not there that Ayana wished was there more than anything. That was Kira, but Kira refused to come. As Ayana boarded on her flight, even though she loved Jacob, she wondered if it was worth hurting Kira in the process. Real sister or host sister, Kira was still her sister and Ayana had broken the bond of sisterhood. As her plane took off, she bent down her head and whispered, "I'm sorry, Kira," as her eyes filled with tears, wondering what could have happened if she left Jacob alone.
