Hi guys! It's my birthday, about six AM so I'm updating this because I'm way too excited for sleep! I'm 15! Happy birthday to me and all that jazz... :D
"Your families have arrived!" exclaimed Dumbledore, beaming as he surveyed the four champions. "They will be staying here in the castle for the Third Task. You may go through and meet them now!"
Fleur and Cedric rushed foreword with excitement but I was dreading the humiliation of everyone seeing I had no family. Harry, I noticed was dragging his feet aswell; of course he had no parents either. I reluctantly followed the others into the room and was immediately tackled by Toma.
"Hey!" he shrieked, hanging onto my waist and squeezing me. I smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Uh, hi Kat" said Charlie from somewhere behind Toma's head.
"Oh... hey" I smiled.
Charlie shuffled over to me and I broke away from Toma to give him a quick hug. He gulped and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "I'm sorry it's just us. But uhm, I really want you, both of you that is, to um, meet my family? They're over there with Harry"
Sure enough, Harry was being embraced by around a million ginger people with Charlie's freckles and green eyes. I nodded and allowed Charlie to lead me and Toma over.
"Hey-... hi mum" Charlie said awkwardly. "This is Kat and her brother Toma"
"Oh" said Charlie's mum. "How... charming"
I laughed nervously. "It's a pleasure to meet you Mrs Weasley"
"Yes, ah a pleasure" she smiled faintly, then hurried off, looking back at Charlie and I uneasily.
"I don't think your mum likes me" I said sadly.
"She'll come round" sighed Charlie. "She probably read about you in the prophet. She always does this whenever any of us bring home a girlfriend"
"A what?" I chocked.
Charlie went bright red. "Uh, nothing. Forget I said that"
"Okey dokey" I mumbled. "Hey, look it's Fleur!"
Fleur left her parents and her sister came over to where we were standing.
"Zis is your family?" she asked Charlie, gesturing towards the red headed Weasleys.
"Yeah" Charlie told her. "Oh dear look, Bill's telling mum off!"
I looked over to where a good looking guy with long red hair in a ponytail and ripped jeans was standing opposite Mrs Weasley. He rolled his eyes at her, patted her shoulder and came over to talk to us.
"Hey Charlie" he grinned and Fleur nudged me in the side. I looked at her and she was staring at him open mouthed.
"You must be Kat, I'm afraid I've just heard rather a lot about you from mum" Bill said, shaking hands with me. "And your Toma?"
"Yeah" smiled Toma, who seemed to be even more hooked on Bill then Fleur was. "You have cool hair"
"Correct" said Bill, before moving on to Fleur. "And who might you be, beautiful?"
"Je m'appelle Fleur Delacour" Fleur managed to stammer, her face turning slightly pink. I could only assume she'd forgotten how to speak English after seeing him.
"Enchanté" smirked Bill, and he bent down to kiss her hand. "Moi, je m'appelle Bill Weasley"
The fact that he'd said his name with an English accent made his over the top French accent even more laughable. Fleur didn't seem amused, she was staring at him with dreamy eyes and biting her lip.
Charlie looked as uncomfortable as I felt so we and Toma excused ourselves and left the two lovebirds to their own devices.
The next day, Charlie and I were training in the forest. With the third task less then a week away, I was only just beginning to reap the rewards of many hours of practice firing spells at Toma, Fleur and Charlie, and was actually beginning to pick up a few new moves.
"Lunch break?" suggested Charlie as he pulled himself up from the floor where he'd just recovered from being turned into a snail by a transformation spell I was practicing.
"Yeah" I agreed. I sat down next to him on a log and he pulled out a couple of sandwiches, two apples and a flask of tea from his bag.
We ate in silence; not the kind of silence that takes over you or makes you feel the need to break it with worthless small talk but a content kind of silence where we listened to the faint lullaby of birds tweeting, crickets chirping and dragons roaring at incompetent trainers somewhere in the distance.
I stole a glance over at Charlie and couldn't help but smile. The sun was shining brightly through the branches overhead and his face was aglow with light. A tiny smirk played on his lips and he looked like a living embodiment of perfection.
"Charlie" I said, still studying his face. "Who's the girl you like?"
Charlie's face twisted ever so slightly as his mouth seemed to have a struggle with itself to remain steady. His eyes went slightly cloudy and I was scared.
Grabbing my hand, he pulled it up towards his face, finally slamming it onto his chest. I could hear his heartbeat going "BABOM BABOM BABOM" so fast I started to get worried !that he was having a seizure.
"Do you really want to know who she is? The girl who makes my heart beat like this" he growled and I nodded, my hand still on his chest. My brown eyes met his flecked green ones and I realised he was crying. His heartbeat was still erratic, maybe even more so then it had been before and he was breathing hard and loudly. Then, I saw the corner of his mouth turn up slightly in a smile and in that moment I knew.
"It's always been you Kat"
