AUHTOR’S NOTE:

If you have read the teaser and prologue, it would seem that the story is somehow vague. We would like you guys to know that the teaser and the prologue are both excerpt from the whole story and not from the same part, mind you. It would definitely be vague. We sort of intended it. Palusot. :))

Enjoy the first chapter. Sana maliwanagan na tayong lahat dito. In fairness, nahirapan kami sa spelling ng mga tagalong words. Pero taglish na talaga to. Err, sort of. :))

“I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine. I got a love and I know that it’s all mine. Oh! Oh oh oh!”

I tried to reach for my phone under my sheets.

“Do what you want –”

I peeked through my eye cover as I turned off the alarm; I checked the time and groaned.

Why did I set the alarm at 7:30 am? What was I thinking?

Nagtalukbong ako ulit ng kumot. I tried going back to sleep.

As I was drifting to another slumber, I heard someone at my door. After 3 knocks, the door opened.

“Morning Sunshine!!!”

“Morning Dad! ‘Sup?” I sleepily mumbled.

“So… Do you want a lift?”

I raised my eye cover and asked, “Where to?” with a questioning look.

“School, of course!”

“Oh. My. God!” I exclaimed as I scrambled out of bed.

My dad chuckled. “Maria Annaleigh Milan, you never change. Be ready within an hour or pareho tayong malelate. First day of class mo pa naman.”

He left my room and closed the door.

I stumbled my way to the bathroom and fixed myself. After taking a long hot shower, I toweled myself dry and donned my school uniform.

I inspect myself on the vanity mirror.

Eww! Panira talaga tong uniform na ‘to. So old school.

I put on some make-up and my signature blood red lipstick. I smiled to myself.

This uniform is so ugly but at least I’m perfect.

I slipped on my black pumps, took one last look at the mirror and picked up my hand bag which basically contained make-up, perfume, my phone, one small notebook and a ball pen. I made my way downstairs.

I found my father standing at the bottom of the stairs, arms folded, slightly tapping his right foot.

Oh, no. He looks a little bit annoyed.

I reached the bottom of the stairs and looked at him sheepishly.

“So sorry, Dad. Perfection takes time,” I said to defend myself.

“Si Mom?” I asked changing the topic.

“Tinutulungan si Allie to get ready for school,” my dad answered, raising his eyebrow.

“Ooh… Nagbreakfast ka na?” I asked acting really concerned.

“Tapos na, kanina pa. You have two choices. Kakain ka at mauuna na ako sayo or you’re going to school without eating your breakfast so I can give you a lift?”

“Tough call…Let’s go?”

“Forget it. You stay and have your breakfast. Alis na ako. Wag kang–”

“Or dadaan tayo sa Starbucks, so you can go be in office on time and I can have my breakfast.”

Hindi ko na hinintay na sumagot siya. I ran up to my Allie’s room and kissed my mom and my sister goodbye.

“Bye Mom. Bye Allie.”

“Good luck in school!” said Mom.

“I don’t need luck, Mom.”

“Oo nga naman, Mom. Ate’s so perfect kaya,” said Allie.

Hindi talaga marunong magsinungaling ang mga bata. She’s just 5 after all.

“Just in case,” Mom mumbled.

I went downstairs and found out that Dad was already in the garage. I followed him outside.

He went inside our almost a year old car, a black Honda Civic.

At least we have a decent car now. It’s better than the old beat up Nissan we had last year but not as much as my red BMW Convertible a few years ago.

I got inside the car and smiled at my dad.

“Let’s go.”

My dad drove our way through the busy streets of Manila. I looked outside the window and got lost on my thoughts.

We weren’t always like this. A middle class family, that is. A few years back, we led an extravagant life. My father was the CEO of our own company. I could buy everything I want without fearing that my credit card would be rejected. We go to different countries for vacation. We have a number of luxury cars and houses. We had maids, drivers, gardeners, personal chefs and bodyguards.

But in a snap, the things we had were taken away. Our company experienced bankruptcy. We had to give up everything to pay the debts.

It was the darkest time of our lives. Eventually, a huge corporation bought our company and absorbed my dad as a manager. Now, we ended up living a middle class life.

I was MARIA ANNALEIGH MILAN ALCANTARA ZAPANTA, daughter of one of the richest man in the country. Now, I’m Maria Annaleigh Milan Alcantara Zapanta, daughter of a company manager. Hindi man nagbago ang pangalan ko, there are changes that lessened the impact of it.

But in school, I’m still known as THE PERFECT QUEEN BEE, heiress of my family’s fortune.

My dad dropped me off at Starbucks nearest to Kruger Brent International School. My school.

I kissed my dad goodbye and got off the car. Pasimple akong yumuko habang naglalakad papasok ng coffee shop, hoping no one saw me as I got off our not-so-classy car.

Kapag may nakakita sa akin na bumaba dun, I’m so dead. My good reputation will end.

When I entered the shop, I was greeted by so many people. Some, I barely know, some with jealousy in their eyes, some with amazement written all over their faces and one with a familiar boy-next-door features. Nonetheless, they were all smiling.

I elegantly made my way to Migs.

“Lee!”

“Migs!”

“I missed you during vacay,” Migs said.

“Aww. I missed you too,” I replied while hugging him.

We headed to the counter and order two White Chocolate Mocha, hot and venti for to go. After that, we headed out of the café and made our way to school.

As we entered the school premises, I thought:

This is it. Kruger Brent International School. Where I’m a fourth year Civil Engineering student. Popular, not only for my looks, but also my brains. This is my territory. My kingdom.

I am The Perfect Queen Bee and no one can stop me.
