Hi, my name is Cassie woods. I have stage 4 cancer. Some may say that I am depressed, but no, I just am very shy and I don't enjoy talking that often. I am in the 10th grade, at Brookline high. I have a mother, my father was in the army and passed away a while back. My mom hasn't worried about men, or at least that's what she told me. I believe it's because of my terminal cancer and I'm pretty sure that she's caught up in it.
I have one older sibling named Jack, he's 18 I am 16 years old. I was born on the June 13, 2000. We live in the city, New York City In a small apartment. I know that's not much, but that's all my single parented mother can handle, for right now anyways. I have a pet his name is cookie he is a collie and he's a puppy about 6 weeks old, we found him thrown off on a road and we decided to save him. Well, let's get into this story and stop talking about me.
I was getting ready for school, waking up at 6:00 AM was never easy for me. But I honestly don't think that it was ever easy for anyone. This morning was weird though I didn't hesitate to get up, that usually meant that I was gonna most likely have an outgoing day. Which was rare for me, mostly because of the stage 4 cancer.
I was a pretty lucky cancer patient to haven't been doing too bad lately, not too many problems. I had brushed my teeth picked out my clothes, this cute black tank top, a Nike jacket, some blue jeans with rips at the knees, and some black fringe boots. I had eaten Apple Jacks for breakfast and was turning on my music when suddenly my mom had screamed. I went to see what was wrong and there was blood on my brothers head, not too much, but enough for something bad to have happened to him.
I didn't want to go to the doctor and miss school today because today was an "outgoing" day for me. So I walked to school because the blood was coming more, and more each second. It seemed to be coming out of his nose and eyes. Creepy, but I had seen this happen sometimes.
When I got to school I sat down in the nurses office she had to check how I was breathing because I also had suckish lungs and I couldn't breathe with my oxygen machine. She told me that I was good for the day, so I walked to my locker and went to class. English was my best class and my by far my favorite, there seemed to be a new kid in class and he seemed to have a tendency to stare at me. We had to take notes, I had taking notes but I love English so it was okay.
Later I realized that I had 3 classes with this kid. I found out that his name was Skylar, he had a charming smile, shiny, but full chestnut- colored hair. He was built or for his size at least, he was tan and a little bit taller than me. He was cute I had to admit, I think that he was kinda into me because all he did was stare at me. It might've been because I have short hair because I had chemo therapy a lot.
I've finished with that though. Later when I went home, my brother was laying there my mom had told me that he had a very severe nose bleed and he was a sleep walker. Wow, that's a first in our family I thought. I replied to my mother "that's odd especially for our family." My mother replied back "I know, but the doctor said that was what happened." Then I just walked to my room.
Later that night when I was reading I got a text. It said "hey Cassie." I didn't know what to say I rarely got texts and if they were texts they were from my best friend Carly, or my family. I replied "hey, who's this?" They replied "it's Skylar, the new kid." And I literally jumped, and said "hey." Trying to play it off, maybe it was a mistake for him to text me. I mean why would such a cute boy like skylar text me, a unpopular, nerdy girl? Maybe it was just because he was new at school and didn't know how some kids were. I soon fell asleep, looking at his text to me and listening to music, and reading my book.
