I opened my eyes a crack as the warm rays of sun washed over my body, waking me up to a beautiful morning.
"Good morning Aaru darling", I hugged myself and pecked my upper arm crossed over my chest.
I sang the morning prayer and thanked God for giving me everything I need, a good and a loving family, a good house, a good college, a good body with all my organs working perfectly and definitely, making me meet some of the best people in life who are no less than a family. I asked for forgiveness for doing anything wrong to myself or others, knowingly or unknowingly .I inhaled and exhaled the air around me deeply for five times and lifted my lips into a smile, just to flex my muscle. I set the goal of my day: to keep smiling and to spread the smiles. And with that, I embraced the new day.
After completing with the morning routine, my usual free-self lounged down on the sofa and unlocked the phone to instagram and all the other social networking sites. Today happens to be the first day of the four day festival i.e. SPECTRUM. Snapchat was blasting with SPECTRUM's stories. Muskaan, Nick, Juhi, Sarthak, Jay and other students who were assistants in SPECTRUM were posting their SPECTRUM's pics. According to the snap stories, the preparations at Murlidhar Sanghvi Grounds were in full swing. Murlidhar Sanghvi Ground is the ground adjacent to our college. It is owned by the college trust and thus the SPECTRUM's pronight, war of DJs and the other dance competitions and singing competitions are held over here. I slightly envied my friends who are assistants in SPECTRUM. SPECTRUM is huge and that tag alone gives you many opportunities. Attendance, friends, fame, fun are some of the things that SPECTRUM offers but I am least concerned with it. Cuz what I want is development, self development and I think that SPECTRUM and similar festivals are the best platforms for it.
You will enjoy SPECTRUM as an audience. Cheer up, Aaru.
I brushed those thoughts aside and logged in my instagram account. My lips curled into an ungodly grin as I came across one post which read: tag your friend and their crush to ruin their life. That ungodly grin grew wider and a few chuckles escaped my mouth as my brain gave a nod to my devilish idea. My aunt casted a suspicious look at me which I simply shrugged off. I bit my lower lip and with that spunkiness rushing in my veins, I tagged Sarthak Saxena and Hiral Desai.
Hiral and Sarthak are going to have a good time. I grinned.
"You", my mom stood in front of me, her hands on her hips, "its morning and Aaradhya madam is all wrapped in her phone", she said, her tone giving me all the symptoms that her temper is high and that I should really not come in her way. I did not know what to respond, so I simply locked my phone and kept it on the glass table and grinned at her, "Mommy, SPECTRUM starts today".
'So, what am I supposed to do with your SPECTRUM festival?" She bellowed, "you are excited about it, I agree. But how can you forget that today is the first day of your aunt's job! She got a job she always wished for. How can you not wish her luck! Can't you come in the kitchen and help me? Can't you at the least keep your room clean?" She scolded. I did not look my mom in the eye as what she said was right and a feeling called guilt rose in me. How can I forget that today is the first day of my aunt's job? How can I forget that she's excited cum nervous about it and that I should talk with her more and be around her?
I looked down, not uttering a single word.
"Phone and friends! Phone and friends! That's the only thing your life is revolving around, Aaru. Even I understand that it's the first year of your college, you wanna enjoy your life, you wanna be with your friends and frolic around. But there has to be some boundaries. You aren't helping me, I still tolerate it. But how can you not remember this important day of your aunt?"
