By the time we got home it was about 1 o’clock in the morning and I still couldn’t shake those eyes from my mind. I couldn’t stop thinking about him, whoever he was.
I waited behind my dad as he unlocked the front door quickly and stepped aside to let me through. As soon as I stepped inside I was instantly hit with the smell of my mum’s old perfume. No matter how much we tried to get rid of the smell, it wouldn’t budge. It was horrible because whenever I went into the house, I was reminded of the heartbreak she had caused my dad and me. Stupid, unmovable perfume.
I grabbed an apple and went up to my room. My room was large. We had knocked down the wall between my room and the spare room so, theoretically, my room was the size of two. I had a large king sized bed on one side of the room and all of my furniture was spread out among the rest of it. To be honest, I would have preferred a normal sized room, as it would have made my room a little less awkwardly furnished. One side of the room was filled with furniture but the other half was pretty plain, with nothing in it. I changed and hopped into my bed, hoping to get at least five hours sleep before tomorrow.
I woke up the next morning as my alarm went off. I rolled over and hit it. It turned off and I rolled over and went back to sleep, only to be woken up again a few minutes later as my alarm went off again. I growled sleepily before turning over, picking up my alarm clock and throwing it across the room, where I heard an ominous cracking sound and then silence. I sighed in relief before realizing what I had done and rushing across the room to observe the damage I had caused.
‘Hayden? Is everything alright sweetheart?’, my dad asked from below.
‘Uh… yes dad?’
‘You threw your alarm clock again didn’t you honey?’
‘Um… no?’
‘Don’t lie Hayden, you do it every morning’, well that was true. I think he’d bought me about 20 alarm clocks this year.
‘You know, if you’ve broken this one, then I’ll be buying you you’re 23rd alarm clock for the year?’, 23, close enough.
‘I’m sorry dad, I’ll see if I can fix it’
‘Sure’
I groaned and went into the bathroom to have a shower before school started. I had a terrible nights sleep last night. I couldn’t sleep at all. All I could think about were those piercing green eyes, contrasting sharply with jet-black hair. Wow. I can see why girls fan girl now. Only I’m not ‘fan girling’ over a singer or actor, I’m ‘fan girling’ over an extremely attractive delinquent. I didn’t even know his name.
Before I knew it, I was at my locker at school. I was sifting through my folders, trying to find my English book when I felt a presence over my shoulder. I jumped slightly when I felt a hand on my hip. I turned to look over my shoulder and saw Lucas, the school jock.
Okay, I should probably give you some background info. Lucas is a jock, I think I said that before but I think it’s quite an important piece of information. He’s just about bedded every girl in the school and he makes it his mission. And apparently, I have caught his interest. And trust me, when Lucas wants something, he generally gets it. But not this time. I was going to show him that I was not just another playing piece in this sick game he was playing.
I slapped his hand off of my hip and turned around to push him away. He took a step backwards looking bewildered but that didn’t stop him from trying again. He stepped forward again and put his hand on the small of my back, pulling me forward so that my chest was flush against his.
‘Come on honey, you know you want me, don’t try to hide it’
I looked at him in disgust before pushing him off of me once more.
‘I have a boyfriend you dickwad’, I didn’t really, but it was the only escape. Lucas looked shocked for a minute before smirking.
‘No you don’t honey. And you want me.’, he said it so matter-of-factly and my stomach churned in disgust and hatred. If this boy thought I would sleep with him then he had something wrong with him. Was it really that hard to believe that Hayden has a boyfriend? Well, I suppose that, seeing as I had no social life, it could, possibly, be a bit hard to imagine, but it was a bit of an insult nonetheless.
I pushed him backwards violently and stormed off to class, leaving him behind me.
School continued like this for a few days. Lucas would try at every possible moment to get me to at least consider sleeping with him. But I still couldn’t forget the guy with the stunning green eyes. Next to him, Lucas just wasn’t up to scratch. He’d touch me, try to win me over by remarking on my outfits and making slutty, manwhory comments. But I wouldn’t have any of it. I pushed him away every single time and I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy the attention that his friends gave me when they mocked him for not winning me over straight away like he usually did with other girls. I had no doubt that he was humiliated by it, but I found it quite humorous.
I was sitting at home at my desk, doing my homework when my phone binged with a text message. Hmmm that’s funny. Seeing as my social life was nonexistent I was surprised that anyone would send me a message. I picked up my phone in excitement. And when I saw who texted, my face fell. Lucas. God damn that boy.
Hey hot stuff meet me in the parking lot before school tomorrow xx
If he thought I was going to fall for that then he had another thing coming his way. And those kisses at the end of the text? What. The. Hell. And then a thought occurred to me. Two can play this game you know Lucas.
Oh you bet I will. Looking forward to seeing you xoxo
I laughed to myself as I hit send. I just wouldn’t turn up. My plan was that he’d wait for me and then, when I didn’t turn up, he’d realise that he’d been played and hopefully he’d change his mind and think I was a bitch. Maybe then he’d leave me alone. Better be thought of as bitchy rather than slutty.
I had just sent the text when my dad walked into the room. He looked nervous. Worried. And I instantly knew that something was wrong.
‘Hayden. We need to talk.’
