In May 2011, Lee Soo Man revealed the idea of debuting new boyband which consist of 2 subgroups. The subgroups will be promoting in Korea and China simultaneously.

In December 2011, EXO was revealed. EXO -K for Korea and EXO-M for China. They will be promoting simultaneously in Korea and China.

EXO is derived from EXOPlanet. A planet which exist outside our solar system.
