Warnings: almost character death (but happy ending) and violence

Something you should know before reading (so that you are not confused): This whole entire story takes place in a totally different universe (AU).

This is a one-shot. I might write a sequel.

She sighed. Thoughtfully, Rainbow Dash wiped away the blood on her blade. The shredded piece of cloth did little to soak up the dripping liquid. Not caring, she dragged the cloth to the point of the sword and back to the fuller. Gripping the hilt tightly, she murmured at her sword.

"Hello, Melanie."

Now, one may wonder why someone like Rainbow with such a bright personality might name their weapon "darkness". It was because of what the blade did. It did not matter that the victims of the blade were people who chose wrong over right. It did not matter that their minds had been corrupted beyond repair. It did not matter. One may list a hundred reasons why they deserved to die, but it would not matter. The weapon brought darkness and pain. End of story.

"How are you today?"

Rainbow's heart clenched with guilt. She had killed billions for the war, but she still felt the pain. The guilt.

"Hey. Are you okay?"

A blue-haired boy kneeled down next to her. His posture was rigid and stiff, but his eyes told a completely different story. His green eyes were calm and gentle as he glanced at her. Rainbow stared back. She looked for the pity and the hate, but all she could see was the overwhelming seas of understanding. How could someone like him care so much about someone like her? He was an amazing fighter, with reflexes so quick that almost nothing could go past him. Her own fighting skills were mediocre and her reflexes were fast, but not as quick as his.

Suddenly, his green eyes widened. A look of alarm passed his face. Soarin grabbed her out of the way and a knife was imbedded where she had been sitting seconds ago. Still holding her arm, Soarin revealed his sword.

Rainbow stared at his hand on her arm. She couldn't take out her sword. Struggling, she tried to twist her arm out of the way. When Soarin took a second to look at her, Rainbow looked pointedly at her arm. Getting the message, Soarin released his grip and caught her gaze.

"Sorry..."

Before she could reply, enemy soldiers attacked them. Slicing and dicing their way through, a river of bodies were left behind them.

"Pretty boy's got some skills, huh?"

Pretty boy? I'll show you pretty boy. Soarin thought as he blocked a blow from the man. The soldier was a few inches taller than him, but he wouldn't let that become his disadvantage. While Soarin was fighting his one-on-one battle, Rainbow was struggling.

One moment, she was standing. A second later, her knees were buckling and Rainbow fell to the ground. The pain on her side was gradually doubling, but she found some strength to kill her opponent before the soldier could finish her off. When Soarin decided to check on Rainbow, he found her on the ground with a large amount of blood spilling out of her side.

"Rainbow!"

Brutally killing the last enemy soldier, Soarin rushed over to her side. He forced her to open her beautiful eyes. Soarin ripped away his leather gloves and held her face in his hands. Bleary pink eyes met an urgent green ones.

"Rainbow? C'mon. You can't die now. Please."

Soarin closed his eyes. His long time crush and best-friend was dying. A scratchy voice forced him to open his teary eyes.

"Hey. Don't cry, Soarin. I had to die someday. Can't live forever, you know."

A weak smile forced its way onto Rainbow's pale face.

"It's going to be okay. You're going to be fine. Then...Then, I'll tell you someday. How much I love you."

Pale pink eyes blinked at him. She sighed. Just her luck. Of course her crush confesses that he loves her on her dying day. Of course.

"Good bye, Soarin. Love you too."

And with a sigh, Rainbow closed her eyes. Her droopy eyelids slowly lowered. Good bye, Soarin. I love you.

Xxx

"So... When were you going to tell me that you loved me?"

Rainbow grinned at her boyfriend as he let out a suffering groan. After her supposed "death", Soarin had carried her body back to the camp to arrange a funeral. When he got there, the nurses told him that there was still hope for her. After a long surgery, the rainbow-haired soldier had been stuck in a coma. During those months, Soarin had fallen into a kind of depression.

When Rainbow had woken up, the first thing she saw was Soarin drooling on her hospital bed. At the time, she wasn't impressed. But, it was all over. The war. His depression. Her coma. Everything. Everything was going to be okay. Everything was perfect.

"I hate you, you know?"

"I love you too, darling."

Hello, everybody! When I sat down to write, I was not expecting this, but that's okay. Originally, I was hoping to write another chapter for "I HATE You.", but I hope this story made up for it? Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
