"GET ON THE FLOOR!" Daddy yelled at mommy. I was 3 years old and it was getting cold outside. I didn't have a jacket but I didn't mind getting soaked. My da- I mean Mike, (mommy said he will never ever be my true dad, so I should call him Mike) physically and emotionally abused me and my mom. I felt so alone. I heard my moms faint whisper, her last words, "Run, Emmelyn" my mom stuttered before her life was drained from her body.
Her hands clutched into a fist then slowly fainted against the hardwood floor. "That's what you get!" Mike spat down on her. "Now I'm coming for you, Emmelyn, so don't even try to hide." I heard his loud boots stomp to the front door. I ran out of the bushes and out into the big city of New York.
