Abel walked over to his couch and took a seat next to me. I looked everywhere but at his face. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, and my left leg shook uncontrollably.
"Why are you so nervous around me?" he asked, chuckling...

Raegan's POV
An hour later
I turn on my iPhone and looked at the time and it was nearly midnight.
Fear began to creep in; being alone in a foreign country, with no one to rely on, was a terrifying prospect. Lamar, the only person I knew here, was likely preoccupied, upset with both me and Abel.
I tried contacting Lamar, hoping he'd come to my rescue. However, I feared he was too angry to respond promptly. I recalled him mentioning a midnight party at Abel's place. If only I knew the address, I could seek help from Abel's driver, a small act of retribution for the embarrassment I'd endured.
Shivering in the frigid Canadian night, I sought shelter in a nearby building. The biting cold was a constant reminder of the foreign environment.
A bar across the street caught my eye. Despite my aversion to alcohol, I craved relief from the mounting anxiety.
Entering "Chuck's Beer & Bar," I was surprised by the sparse crowd. The pungent smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol filled the air, a stark contrast to my usual preferences.
A polite bartender approached, asking for my drink order.
"What would you like to drink ma'am?" The bartender asks.
"Just a bottle of water, please," I replied, grateful for the Canadian courtesy.
"Okay coming right up" he says with a wink.
"Thank you" I reply with a small smile.
I should have known better. As a nursing student, I'm always striving for a healthy lifestyle. I usually only drink socially, and even then, I prefer lighter options.
I've been diligently working on my online nursing courses for nearly a year now. Soon, I'll have my master's degree, which will open doors to exciting career opportunities.
Just as my thoughts began to wander, a disheveled man reeking of alcohol approached me. He slung his arm around my shoulder, sending a shiver down my spine.
Eww what the fuck...
I instantly regretted my decision to come here. Why do I sometimes make such reckless choices?
"Hey pretty lady, did you come here with someone?" he slurred.
"No, I'm alone," I replied nervously, recoiling from his foul breath.
The discomfort was overwhelming. I just wanted to escape the situation and go home.
I couldn't help but think of the peaceful night I could have been having in my hotel room right now.
"So, do you want to come to my place? We could do a little something, miss chocolate thang," he suggested.
I rolled my eyes, too disgusted to respond. I yearned for Lamar's presence to intervene.
