Only know you love her when you let her go
"hi there," a voice greeted me. looking up from the swings i was watching, i was shocked to see who it was. it was her.
"am i dreaming again?" i asked, annoyed as she sat down. she gave me a confused look and i nodded. "nope, you never looked at me like that. you usually just smile, or laugh at me."
"you dream of me?" she asked, smiling slightly. i nodded, knowing there was no reason to lie. "how adorable."
"why are you here?" i asked quickly, her expression informing me that my question sounded a bit rude. "no! i mean, i was an ass to you. i-"
"you broke up with her," she stated, glancing at the swings i was just watching. "why?"
"because..." i trailed off, taking in a deep breath. "because i love you."
she turned to smile at me, her eyes brightening. "do you?"
i nodded, frowning slightly. "but you don't feel the same."
"if i didn't, why would i even be here?" she asked, leaning closer to me. i shrugged.
"to laugh at me?"
she laughed, shaking her head. "boy, i love you. i do."
"so where does this leave us?" i asked, widening my eyes as i smiled slightly.
but instead of smiling at me, she frowned. "no where."
"but you just-"
"we're young, boy. we don't know what we're doing," she started to explain, shaking her head as she stood up. "i do love you, i really do. and maybe, in a couple years, we'll meet again and start over."
"you're leaving?" i asked, astonished. i had no idea what to say.
"yeah," she replied, smiling sadly. "to a new town. i just came to say goodbye."
"but you just said you wanted to-"
she laughed again, her eyes dancing with amusement. "boy, do i love you."
and with that, she ran over to a car, not once looking back at me.
and then did i realize, i loved her. i was in love with her.
and all it took was for me to let her go to realize it.
And you let her go...
