Chapter 5

The Ball

I look at Lucius as he laughs and dances with the woman. She’s beautiful with her chocolate brown hair and golden eyes like the sun. The blue dress she is wearing compliments her well.

“Allie. Do you want to leave?” Sebastian told me with eyes of doubt but with a bit of hope.

“No, I’ll be fine,” I say putting a smile on my face. I was surprised at how easily I did that. Maybe, maybe I am getting over Lucius. I’m actually happy for him. He seems to like this girl a lot better than he did me. I still have my doubts though. I don’t want her to be hurt like he hurt me. I sigh but it’s a good sigh. It is a sigh full of happiness.

Sebastian holds his hand out. “May I have this dance, my lady?” He said smiling.

“Of course you can,” I say grabbing his hand. The band started playing a lovely song as he and I strode over to the dance floor.

After the song was over he went over to get us some drinks. While he went I decided to pay Lucius a visit. He had also stopped dancing for a moment. I walk over to him and the mystery woman, full of confidence, no longer hurting. Well, that is, for the moment at least.

I tap Lucius lightly on the shoulder and say, “Hello Lucius. How have you been and who is this beautiful woman you have brought with you today?”

“Oh Almira I didn’t see you there. This is Sarafina,” He said seemingly surprised.

Sarafina held out her hand and said, “Hello Almira. It’s nice to meet you. Please, call me Sara. I prefer it much better over Sarafina.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too Sara, and please call me Allie,” I say smiling. She seems nice enough. Maybe we could get along.

I take a look around for Sebastian. I see him heading over our way from the drink table. I smile as he walks up beside me and hands me my drink. “Thank you Sebastian,” I say gratefully.

“My pleasure Allie,” He said. “Who is this fine young woman here?”

“Oh, I’m Sara, Luce’s sister,” She said cheerfully.

I take a double take. “Wait. You both are siblings?” I say surprised.

“Yes, neither of our dates are here yet so we met up and started dancing. Why? Did you think we were together?” Sara replied laughing.

I looked down embarrassed, but now I wonder. Who is Luce’s date?

“Oh there she is now,” Luce says excitedly. “Isa! It’s good to see you.”

I gasp as Izzy walks over and hugs Lucius obviously not seeing me standing here. How could she do this to me? After everything that happened she went after Luce. Not even thinking how I felt. “Why? Izzy. Just, why?” I say extremely frustrated and hurt. I feel the tears burning my eyes but keep them down.

“Allie…” Izzy starts but then looks down in what I can only see as shame. It feels like a knife has been stabbed through my heart and just as it started to get better someone pulled it out. Even though it will heal better it hurts even worse. I need to get over it. At least he makes her happy. “Never mind,” I say forcing a smile. “Come on Sebastian, let’s dance.”

I grab Sebastian’s hand and pull him out onto the dance floor. He immediately puts his hands on my waist and I put mine around his neck as we come to a stop.

            “Thank you Sebastian, for everything.”

            “You are very welcome Allie.”

With that, we danced the rest of the night away. It took away worries, fears, angers, and frustrations. Leaving only with us joy and happiness.
