HIDE AND SEEK

"47, 48, 49, 50!! Ready or not! Here I come!!" William screamed as he flung around curiously looked around. It was 20:43, our favourite time to play.

This was our routine for every Saturday night. Wait till its dark, after that TV show of the cops riding on bicycles catching all the bad guys. Every kid's dream, to be a cop, fight the bad guys and be the hero and all that on a Y-frame, shock enable bicycle. As soon as the credits will start to roll, we rushed outside; everyone was usually at our house. Most of the time someone would just nominate them self to be "on." 50 was the usually number we would count to, while the others hid. As you get to 50 you should first shout, "Kan ek maar kom!?" For those English people that might read this, that sentence is, "May I come now!?" If nobody screams at you, then you may start to look for the rest of us.

I was the only girl in the neighbourhood. It was me and my brother, Renier. The neighbours boys, William, Wessel and Ernest. Then the neighbours from across the street, Shaun and Robin. And the two boys across from them, Gerhard and Riaan. The rules where that you where only allowed to hide in the area close to our house, it was the most centred one. The far you could go was to William's house and on the other side Gerhard's house. My favourite spot was against the wall that splits the two yards of the houses rite in front of us. There was a big bush 60cm from the wall and no light could shine in. It's perfect! You can sit and watch the whole game play out in front of you. The best place to hide, especially if you wear a black shirt. The only tricky part was to make sure that everyone weren't looking in your direction before you start to run, or else when they are on they will come and look for you there at that very same spot. Other wise you can hide there again and again and again.

I wish we could go back to that age...
