A Wish Come True (Rem x Subaru)

Confessions

Rem pursed her lips, looking down at a defeated Subaru. Having no idea what he's been through, worry swam through her mind, trying to decipher this puzzle. Sighing, Rem takes a step towards Subaru.

"Rem knows...that no matter how deeply Subaru-kun has fallen into darkness, Subaru-kun still has the courage to reach out your hand." Rem leans back, closing her eyes and recalling the moments she spent with Subaru. "Rem loves it when Subaru-kun strokes Rem's hair. Rem feels as if we can understand each other through the contact between Subaru-kun's hand and Rem's hair." She opens her eyes, looking at him warmly. She continues, "Rem loves Subaru-kun's voice. Just hearing you say one word makes Rem's heart feel so much warmer. Rem loves Subaru-kun's eyes. Normally they look stern, but when Subaru-kun is being kind to someone, Rem loves the way they soften." Rem chuckles at that memory, turning her lips up to a smile as she looks at him. "Rem loves Subaru-kun's fingers. For a boy, you have such lovely fingers. But when they clutch mine, Rem knows they are the strong, slender fingers of a man. Rem loves the way Subaru-kun walks. When we walk together, Rem loves the way you occasionally look back, to make sure Rem keeps up." Blushing slightly, she presses on, determined to break into his heart. "Rem...Rem loves the way Subaru-kun looks when you sleep. Subaru-kun looks unguarded, like an infant, and your eyelashes are on the long side. When Rem touches your cheeks, you calm down..." holding her hands behind her back, she continues. "And when Rem playfully touches your lips, Subaru-kun doesn't even notice..." tears began welling up in her eyes. "And...and that makes Rem's heart ache terribly." Brushing her tears away softly, Rem looks at Subaru, frozen still like a statue. Taking a deep breath, Rem cooed. "and I love you." At the back, a soft wind stirs, as if it was a signal, sending a flock of pigeons fluttering away. In front of Rem, Subaru's heart hammered away, his stomach a pit full of butterflies. 

"But...why?" He choked. Surely, this was a mistake, Rem was saying this just to make him feel better. He couldn't just let her play with his feelings like this. But all Rem did was shake her head, smiling, her cheeks glistening with tears. 

"When you said that you hated yourself, it made Rem want to tell you all the wonderful things Rem knows about Subaru-kun." Rem tilts her head, smiling happily. Gritting his teeth, Subaru shot her a look of depression, his eyes clouded with the burden weighing a thousand stars. 

"Don't talk like you know me! I know myself better than anyone!" Subaru shut his eyes, as he felt his own tears beginning to well up behind his sewn eyelids, not wanting to face her. Suddenly, Rem takes a short, sharp breath in, tensing up. 

"All Subaru-kun knows is yourself!" Rem's sudden outburst shocked Subaru to the core as his head snapped up, looking at Rem's shaking figure with hooded eyes. A feeling of guilt began to blossom within him as he mentally kicks himself. "How much does Subaru-kun know about the Subaru-kun that Rem sees?!" She continues, tears forming again as her bottom lip trembles. 

"Why...why do you like me so much?" Subaru says, surprised. "I'm weak and small. I'm running away, just like I ran away last time...so why?!" Subaru leaned back on the rock behind him to keep his legs from failing on him. Despite Subaru's reactions, Rem only smiles and looks at Subaru warmly in the eyes.

"Because you are my hero, Subaru-kun!" Rem's smile widens as she closes her eyes, reminiscing the past. "Back in the forest, when Rem didn't even know who I was anymore and couldn't think of anything but violently lashing out, Subaru-kun saved Rem. When Rem woke up unable to move, and nee-san was exhausted after using too much magic, you faced the mabeasts as a diversion, so we could escape. There was no way Subaru-kun could win, and your life was in real danger. But you still went, and came back to Rem's arms, still warm. When Subaru-kun woke up, you smiled and said the words Rem wanted to hear most, when I wanted to hear it the most, from the one Rem wanted most to hear them from." Rem sighed, linking her fingers together behind her back again as she dug her foot into the floor. "My time has been stopped for so long. Ever since that fiery night, the night I lost everything except my sister, my time has been stopped..." she looked up to Subaru gently again. "It was you, Subaru-kun, who melted my frozen heart, and kindly made Rem's stopped time begin to move forward again!" Rem opened her eyes, looking at Subaru again, this time her eyes bright with elation. "Rem is sure Subaru-kun has no idea how you saved me, or how happy Rem was at that moment, on that morning." She takes a deep breath before putting her hand to her heart. "That's why...no matter what painful things happen, even when it looks like you'll lose...when no one else in the world believes in Subaru-kun, when Subaru-kun doesn't even believe in yourself...Rem will believe!" Saying that, Rem moves forward, pulling Subaru into her, hugging him tightly. "Rem will believe that the Subaru who saved her is a true hero." Subaru hugs back tightly, as if his life depends on this very hug itself.

"No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't have anyone.." Subaru murmurs, having remember his previous encounters with his own death and not to mention, Rem's death. But here, Rem merely smiled. 

"Rem is here. The Rem you saved is right here. Rem will listen to anything Subaru-kun has to say. I want to...and...Subaru-kun...Rem...really loves Subaru-kun!" Rem bends down, stroking Subaru's cheeks softly, smiling. 

"You...you really don't mind that it's me?" Subaru whispered, unable to believe that it's true.

"Rem wants it to be you." Rem cooed. "Rem would not want it to be anyone else. If Subaru-kun cannot forgive yourself for being empty and having nothing...then let us start from here, right now. Just like you started Rem's time for me when it was stopped, we will make the time that you feel is stopped for you begin to move again." Rem smiles, a tear of happiness rolling down. "Let's start from here, from square one." Shaking her head, she adds on. "No, from zero!" Subaru stands up, surprised yet touched by Rem's words. A warm fuzzy feeling started buzzing and spreading through his body and his face turns to a grin. Rem continues, "Rem will hold you up. As we walk, we will share the burden and support each other. Wasn't that what Subaru-kun said to Rem? Show me how awesome you can be, Subaru-kun."    

As Subaru faced Rem, tears running down her face after her long confession, his question remains lodged at his throat. What he would want from Rem, no one else could give, nobody else could replace. Just a few minutes ago, his mind had been hazy with the witch's cult, with the attack on Roswaal Mansion, with Emilia; but now, none of those things seem to matter anymore. Not after Rem had poured her feelings out, wearing her heart on her sleeve, and certainly not after Subaru had promised Rem mentally that he would take care of her forever, that he would not let harm come to her. Taking her hand, Subaru knelt down.

"Rem..." he said, his face feeling hot and a fluttering feeling in his stomach.

"Yes." Rem looks down at him, tilting her head, her soft and tender smile shining down on him. The way her short, blue hair covers her face sent Subaru's heart hammering like an alarm.

"I...I love you, Rem. I love you with all my heart, and that will never change." As soon as those words left his mouth, his heart exploded with emotions as he tilts his head down, squeezing his eyes shut. Smiling, Rem goes down to her knees, putting her hands on Subaru's face, caressing it gently. Slowly she moves up and kisses Subaru softly on his forehead.

"Rem loves Subaru-kun too...Rem is so happy that Subaru-kun feels the same way." As Subaru looks up, all he could see was his beautiful girl, his angel, his reason to live and his everything. Slowly, he moves his hand under her chin, tilting it up slightly. Realising what's happening, Rem closes her eyes, awaiting. Subaru closes his eyes as well before moving in, gently brushing his lips against hers. Sending a shiver down his body, he presses on, a feeling of desperation already spreading through his mind. Gently he wrapped his arms around Rem, pulling her in tighter and deepening their kiss. Subaru could feel a fire burning through his body as he desperately kisses her. After what seemed like an eternity, they broke off. Rubbing his hands at the back of his head, he blushed.

"Ah...I'm sorry Rem...I got ahead of myself there" Subaru said, laughing dryly. Rem shook her head and smiles.

"don't apologize for that, Subaru-kun, Rem...Rem really enjoyed that too." She cooed, her face burning red. "A-anyway...we should probably get back to Crusch Karstens place now...Felis would be worried." Subaru shook his head.

"We won't be going back there, Rem. We'll leave, now." Closing her eyes, Rem nodded fiercely. This is all she wanted ever since he stepped into her life. Just him and her, no one else. Taking her hand,

They finally did it.

They threw everything away to run off with each other.
