Chapter One
I hover over the sleeping neighbourhood. The street light flickers as I gently ease myself on the top. The air is heavy and humid making it very difficult to breath, even for a spirit.
I carefully inspect each home on the street, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. What I remember is a bright, yellow garage door, but I can't find it. I hover over the rooftops to the next street. Maybe I was wrong. I hadn't come to this city for almost ten years.
After inspecting about twenty other streets I come to the conclusion that the child must have moved. This was not going to please the Council.

The girl rocked her legs back and forth as she tried to swing even higher than she already was. Her long, jet black hair flew in every direction and became a tangled mess by the time she jumped off the swing.
It was getting late and she needed to get back home. She ran to the park bench to retrieve her book bag and slowly walked out of the park. The street lights began to turn on and she sighed.
She picked up her pace when a small, blue light floated before her eyes. She immediately stopped, and then took a few steps back but held her gaze on the strange light. It suddenly expanded and she was engulfed in its brightness, then everything went dark.
I look at her lying peacefully on field. So that is how she got here. I have the ability of seeing inside a human. This ability allows me to see what they have seen, smell what they have smelt, hear what they have heard, taste what they have tasted and feel what they have felt; all of the five senses. What I also mean by feel what they have felt is their emotions; sadness, jealousy, pity, hate and love, to only name a few. Unfortunately, I rarely come into contact with humans so this gift of mine is pretty much a waste because of my line of work.
I look at her chest slowly rise, and then fall again. She has been sleeping for a few hours now and is starting to irritate me. But I must admit she is a very cute human girl, and her soul is quite pure despite all the troubling thoughts. I think about all the spirits that might come after her. Yes, a cute, pure human girl is worth more than an entire kingdom in the Spirit Realm.
But I can't stay by her side forever. I need to tell the Council about my bad news, but I certainly can't move her. For one, I'm about one foot tall. I'm not a human-looking spirit. I'm a simple, floating cube, although I can occupy any object making it my body. Second, I couldn't find anything large enough that I could occupy. Third, even if I could find something to occupy and lift her, I wouldn't be able to touch her.
Even though it would only be used as my body, I would still be a part of that object as I lay within it, and spirits cannot touch humans in the Spirit Realm. At least they shouldn't if they want to live. It's all very complicated and as I think about it the girl wakes up.
I look at her. Wow. Her eyes are so beautiful, almost as beautiful as a spirits; large and turquoise.
She looks right at me, but I don't feel a single sense of fright in her small body. I try searching her memory for her name, but I can't seem to find it.
"Who are you?" I say. I'm curious, and why isn't she sacred?
She looks at the sky, and suddenly everything is disappearing. Her memories slowly fade away. My eyes widen. What is happening? I scramble around in her heart and soul. She is forgetting everything.
"I do not know." She looks back at me. At least I can still tell her emotions, but this is bizarre. She is slightly confused. Slightly!
"You are in the Spirit Realm," I say, very slowly. She just nods and then lies down on the field again.
"What are you doing?!" I yell. "Get up and follow me."
She obeys without hesitation. I begin to float to the east. The Council was waiting for me and I have a mission, but what will I do with her?
