Adelaide's POV
"Sawyer hurry up!!!" I yelled to my best friend as he slowly walked from the bathroom to his bedroom.
"Chill Addy, you're so impatient." He laughed.
"Ok well sorry Mr. Turtle... or snail, or, um..." I trailed off being my socially awkward self.
He walked over to me and messed up my hair as he laughed.
"Ugh I hate when you do that!" I said, desperately trying to fix my auburn strands.
"I know you do. That's why I did it." He snickered. "And anyways, we're just going into town, I don't know why you're in such a rush."
I immediately went quiet and he quickly noticed my change in demeanor.
"Listen..." he softened, "I know I don't get out as much as I used to but I don't like people following me and coming up to me every five minutes. It gets irritating after awhile."
"No I know, it's ok. It's just everyone's on vacation for Christmas and nobody's gonna be in town. We can just enjoy it!"
"Well we have the entire day. I'm almost done just let me get my jacket ok?"
"Fine. I'll be in the car."
I waited for about another five minutes before he hopped in the passenger seat next to me.
"It's funny how you can drive and I can't and you're a year younger than I am." He stated.
"Sawyer you say that literally every time I drive. It's not my fault I got my license and you didn't."
"Whatever." He grumbled.
I drove us into town and parked in front of this little coffee shop we both like. It's quaint and hardly anyone ever goes in there.
We got out of the car and walked inside, hearing the all too familiar jingle of bells that ring as you open the door. I was greeted by the comforting smell of coffee beans and freshly baked pastries. I could sense the release in Sawyer as well. This place just made everyone feel warm and fuzzy.
Once we each got a pastry and something warm to drink, we headed to the back to sit on the small couch together. We ate in silence, the only breaking noise was the sound of fresh coffee being made and the ding of the oven signaling a finished batch of pastries.
As Sawyer took a final sip of his drink he broke the silence.
"I'm so relieved my tour is finally over honestly. I'm not sure my voice could've handled any more shows."
I looked at his face, really looked. He was definitely exhausted.
"I did notice you sounded a little raspy. I'm glad you're finally home though, I missed you."
He smiled.
"I missed you too. I'm glad I don't have to do anything job related for awhile. I can just take a break. Be with my family, spend time with my friends..." he trailed off.
"You ok?" I wondered at his sudden change in tone.
"Dylan is here." He whispered.
I looked towards the door and sure enough, Dylan was standing there.
Dylan was the one person in this town, who hated Sawyer. Dylan liked to sing, he played piano, but the truth of the matter was his voice wasn't very good. He loathed Sawyer for his talent, an anger fueled by jealousy. Whenever the two stumbled across each other it ended in a one-way screaming match. Dylan yelling profanities, Sawyer walking away trying to ignore him and usually the questioning stares.
"Don't worry. He can't see us." I said as I turned to Sawyer.
"No I know, I just... he's so irritating."
"I know. I think he's just getting coffee."
As predicted, he ordered and left. We both let out a sigh of relief.
"I really did miss you. I can't wait to do stuff with you again." I said to him.
"Me too. Tomorrow we're having a movie marathon."
"Sawyer I swear to Jesus Christ himself if you make me watch Game Of Thrones all day..."
"Shut up that's not a movie it's a show. Also, you're picking the movies since I haven't seen you in forever and I miss your terrible taste in film."
Naturally his statement earned a slap on the shoulder followed by his laughter.
"Be quiet ya lil shit I have great taste in movies."
"Mhmm yeah sure let's go with that." He said sarcastically.
"Ok whatever, we should probably head home."
He nodded as we walked back to the car.
I really missed him. He'd been away on tour for almost a month. It's so good that he's home.
