Tristan took a deep breath and smiled. Miles wrapped his arms around his boyfriend from behind.
"Happy New Year, handsome," Miles whispers in his ear. Tristan chuckles as he turns around. He lightly presses his lips against Miles'.
"We have like 3 hours left of this shitty year so let's make it count,"
"What's the rush, right?"
Tristan nods as he intertwines his hand with his boyfriends. 2016 was a devastating year for everyone. Tristan along with everyone else had barely made it through.
"Not a day goes by, you know," Tristan starts. "Not a day goes by where I don't think of her. I miss her," A tear rolls down Tristan's cheek.
"I know," Miles replied. "She was your best friend but she wouldn't want you to..."
"I know. Believe me, Miles, I know. She wouldn't want me wasting my time crying over her. She's probably laughing at me right now," 2016 was a rough year for Tristan, especially. He barely survived the bus crash that costed him his leg. He got a prosthetic leg. Months after the accident, something happened."Tell me again why we're dressing in full black on a Monday night at 11pm?" Tristan asked as he got into Zoë's car. Zoë turned the ignition on and rolled her eyes as she backed out of Tristan's drive way.
"Shhh," Zoë said. "It's a surprise!" Tristan sat in his seat, wondering where his best friend was taking him at this time. Not long after, they had reached a big open field. Zoë stopped the car and the two of them got down.
"Okay. Why are we here? You're scaring me," Tristan said as he folded his arms. Zoë took a deep breath and sighed.
"I just found out recently that...that I'm pregnant," Tristan's eyes widened as he stared at his best friend in shock.
"By who? You're gay so..."
"Winston...he was the last time...and I know for a fact that it's his...because we didn't use protection," Zoë replied. Tristan nodded in agreement as he walked into the open field.
"Hey, say something! Anything," Zoë caught up with him.
"What do you want me to say? Obviously it's up to you if you're going to keep her or him. Winston gets a say in this and you know that,"
"Yes. I know."
"Okay." The two continued to walk and were both silent for a while. Tristan couldn't believe that Zoë was pregnant.
"Are you mad?" Zoë asked him. Tristan thought for a while and hen answered.
"Shocked, maybe...I thought we were going to New York?"
"Yeah but we can still-" Tristan shook his head slowly as he stared at his best friend. Tristan knew things were going to be different if she decided to keep the baby.
"Okay, fine then. So I'll have to stay here and have the baby. You get to go live your dreams while I stay here and raise a kid!"
"Are you serious right now?" Tristan said as he shot his best friend a hateful look. Zoë put her hands over her face and fell to the ground.
"I know it's my fault. I'm the one who decided to have sex with someone I don't even love," she sobbed. Tristan knelt down beside her and wrapped his arm around her.
"I meant are you serious about me leaving you here?" Tristan paused. "New York won't be fun without you.
I'm sure there's great acting programs at UOT or something,"
Zoë smiled at her best friend.
"So you're gonna stay here? In Toronto?"
"Just until you and baby are ready to migrate to New York. You're my best friend, Zoë. I can't just leave you," Tristan told her. Zoë smiled at him. It warmed her heart that Tristan was really supportive. The two laid in the grassy field, listening to some music.
"Do you think Miles and I make a good couple?" Tristan asked Zoë.
"Does it really matter what I think?" She replied. "I mean, you guys have your toxic moments but honestly, you two have been through it all,"
"Yeah...but, I feel like..."
"Are you having doubts?" Zoë asked him. Tristan sighed.
"I'm scared that when he's bored, he'll leave..."
"Uh oh, there's a butt..." Zoë said as she sat up. Tristan got up as well as chuckled.
"I really love him. And it's not the high school, puppy love crap. I mean, I actually love him. I'm in love with him," Tristan said as he folded his arms.
"Well...its okay. To be honest, he's changed. When he's with you, it's like another whole Miles, the best version of him,"
"Well...if you say so. I just get worried that's all..." Tristan still felt unsure if Miles' loved him wholeheartedly. Zoë sighed as she stared at her phone.
"Crap, we need to get going. I'm suppose to be home an hour ago,"
The two got into the car and the drive home was loud. Zoë had turned up the radio and the two sang to the words of their favorite song. Zoë slammed her foot to the brakes and Tristan turned to her only to see two bright lights before everything went blank,""I know how much it hurts, Tris." Miles said as he narrowed his eyes to the ground.
"She was gonna have a baby. And she brought me to that field because she thought that I'd abandon her. But turns out, she left me...and I'm so mad like...I don't want to be mad but I just am."
"I understand but she wouldn't want you to let this ruin your life. She's in a better place and I can honestly say that she's want you to be happy-"
"OHHHHH 10 seconds to new year!!!"
