Chapter 1: parent probs

"Clair Lassina this is the last time I will tell you this! You don't need to be going and hanging around all of your so called 'besties' every single night of the week!" My father rants to his speech I hear almost ever night!

"Dad! You just don't understand what it's like to be a teenager! The social ladder is everything and the only way to be on top is to be better than the best! The only way to do that is to make sure everyone knows that I'm there and not some invisible wannabe!" I practically scream trying to control my anger.

"Clair you have volleyball and basketball to worry about honey! Not to mention your school work in the advanced classes. We are just worried about your health dear. You have one practice after another then your school work! After that you go and party with your friends till 1 or 2 in the morning on a school night! You must be exhausted! You know popularity and the social ladder isn't everything right?" Now my mother chimes in trying to clear up the situation that is quickly going down hill.

I sigh trying to take in everything my parents are saying. It isn't like me to fight so much with them. I understand where they are coming from but at the same time I wish they would see what it's like to be at the top of the social ladder because it definitely isn't the easiest thing to get to the top of! But staying there, well that's another thing!

"Fine. I see your point. I'm not going to lie, lately I've been exhausted. I will even admit I've been slacking in practices, but my grades are still perfection!"

My parents seem to be relieved that I've come to my senses, but honestly I think they know I will be back at my old habits by the end of the week. I mean to be honest I'm beyond exhausted! They don't have a word that describes how tired I am!

Yesterday after school I had two two hour practices for volleyball and basketball right after the other. Once I got home I took a quick shower and finished some last minute homework I had stuffed in my bag. By the time I was completely finished with all that it was 10 o'clock and my phone was buzzing like crazy!

I told my parents I was going over to Acacia's house to pick her up before driving to Mikes Drive In for a bite to eat with a couple other friends from school.

Now don't think I got out of the house without a few remarks from my father. He grumbled about it but in the end he let me go.

Now the Mikes Drive in thing was not a lie! I'm not some messed up snob who lies to go and get out of the house to do drugs!

No actually I went to Acacia's house picked her up and we sped to the drive in to meet up with some of our friends. We just stayed and gossiped till 1 in the morning!

By the time I got Acacia home, it was about 1:45. I easily got into my house. The door was unlocked and my parents were fast asleep in there room, so I avoided the questions about my adventures with Acacia for the night or should I say morning. Although I knew I was sure to be interrogated later about last night.

So here I am only less than a day later. I know I will have to turn down the plans I had made with my friends or at least reschedule them for later on this week because I know there was no way my parents would let me leave tonight.

I step out of the kitchen to gather my thoughts. Maybe staying home tonight is for the best! I mean catching up on some sleep does sound more than perfect right now.

Before I know it I'm climbing the rickety stair case that descends to the basement where my room is located.

I quickly open my door after glancing at the many pictures that have seen to have found a home on there over the years. A grab my phone out of my bag, place in my headphones, and change into some sweats.

Before I know it I'm in my bed and struggling to keep my eyelids open. I guess I really did need some time to relax.
