The Prologue
The small girl pushed her way through the golden grains. They were cool against her pale skin. Her blonde hair was plastered to her face from the rain that was pouring from the sky. The rain hid the tears that were running down the child’s face. She clenched her small hands into tiny fists as she tried to run faster.
“Mommy!” She cried out to the dark figure up ahead in the field. The figure turned at the sound of the child’s voice, “Mommy! Don’t go!” She cried out again.
She closed her eyes tight for just a moment but that was all it took. Her foot got caught in the mud, causing her to fall. Pain ran trough her when she landed hard upon the ground. She winced as she moved, pushing herself up. The boom of thunder made her snap her attention back to the figure that was still ways away from her.
Lightening streaked through the sky. It brought light to the surrounding darkness, and bathed the figure in fleeting light. It was a young woman with long blonde hair that matched the child’s. Sadness was visible in her eyes but she shed no tears. Wind stirred her hair from it’s stillness, showing that it was not sticking to her like her daughters was.
The woman was beautiful, like a freshly bloomed rose covered in early morning dew. Her eyes were a reach forest green color and were not wavering off her daughter who was trying so hard to reach her. A pained smile came to her face. It pained her to know that her daughter would never reach her, and would forget her as soon as she was gone.
Turning away, she looked up at the darkened sky. Rain was pouring around her, but was not touching her. It made her happy to know that the clouds were sharing her daughters pain. They were crying with her so that she would not feel so alone. Slowly she closed her eyes and let the familiar warmth wash through her.
“No! Mommy!” The child screamed as loud as she could as she watched her mother leave. A blue orb appeared before the woman. A bright burst of light exploded from it with weird symbols visible within it. Her mother took a step into it. Slowly she started to dissolve, as if the world was erasing her from it. “No!” She screamed again as she started to run towards her again. But this time, it was as if she were getting further and further away.
Before she was fully gone, she turned to look upon her child one last time. “I’m so sorry… Lightening, don‘t forget me.” She whispered. But her daughter heard her. Those words echoed around her as her mother fully vanished along with the light.
Lightening fell to her knees and hid her face in her hands. Her body shook with each sob that came from her small frame. She could feel her memories leaving her. After only a few seconds she could no longer remember her mothers face.
The snap of a twig to the side made her lift her head. She could see another figure fleeting into the woods. A glimpse of blonde hair was the last thing she saw before she full collapsed to the ground. Darkness soon overcoming her mind. It had stopped raining and the run was already raising. Water droplets sparkled on her skin, a single tear making it’s way down her face for the last time.
