*New York - Rachel/Santana/Kurt's apartment*
"SANTANA!! DID YOU TAKE THE CHICKEN OUT OF THE OVEN LIKE I ASKED?" Rachel Berry shouted as she walked towards the kitchen of her New York loft apartment, while fiddling with the back of her left earring.
"YES. And Dani has prepared all the rest of the food. While Lady Hummel here has sprinkled some of his vogue glitter on the table arrangments." Santana sarcastically replied, "I don't understand why you're stressing out so much anyway, it's not like we're serving dinner to the President? I highly doubt Sam, Quinn, Mercedes and even Blaine are going to give a rats-ass about whether or not the flower decorations match their cutlery? Like seriously, this is getting ridiculous now."
Rachel sighed and chose to ignore the comment, although secretly she couldn't help but admit that Santana had a point. Maybe she was going the top with everything as usual, but it was only because she cared, a lot. This was the first time any of her old high school friends, excluding Santana and Kurt of course, would see the apartment and she wanted everything to be perfect.
Just then there was a sudden bang on the loft door.
"I'll get it" Kurt said, handing Dani the plates he was initially carrying before running to the door. There was a loud squeal as Kurt greeted Sam, Blaine and Mercedes standing in the hallway outside. Rachel, Santana and Dani all went over to join them then exchanging countless amounts of hugs and the usual "i've missed you so much", "wow you look amazing", "Rachel this apartment is just perfect" mixed with Santana introducing her girlfriend to her old school friends.
"So where's Quinn? I thought she was coming with you Mercedes?" Rachel asked, once they had all calmed down and she had finally managed to lead everyone into the kitchen for drinks.
"Oh she's on her way, she texted earlier saying her train was delayed or something and that she would be here in..." Mercedes glanced at her phone, "about 40 minutes." Sam stopped pouring his drink and turned to face Rachel.
"Quinn's coming? Nobody told me?!" his voice started to sound a little nervous as he whispered. Rachel looked at him suspiciously for a second before answering,
"Yeah, I swear I mentioned her in the text when I invited you? Why, is there something wrong?" her voice seemed more concerned now as she watched Sam gulp his drink down within almost a second.
"Nothing. Nothing's wrong. I just- it doesn't matter." He tried to avoid eye contact. Rachel watched him pour another drink before trying to get Santana's attention across the room and signal towards Sam's worried face, she understood straight away and they both took him out of the kitchen and into living room.
"Ok Trouty, you have exactly 15 minutes before Quinn arrives, so please explain as to why you are freaking out and sweating like a turkey at thanksgiving." Santana said, crossing her arms. Sam tried to avoid contact with both of them, but he knew he wouldn't be able to get away with this now, neither Rachel or Santana would give up until he told them exactly why he seem to be so nervous to see his ex girlfriend. He sighed and then sat down on the couch, Rachel and Santana remained standing, their eyes still fixed on him.
"Fine. I guess, it's just I haven't actually seen Quinn since you all graduated, you know with her being all busy at Yale and everything, and at first I thought that was a good thing, gave me time to forget about the break-up..move on? But now knowing she's going to walk through that door in what? 5 minutes now? I just don't know how I'm going to feel"
"But didn't you break up with her, Sam?" Rachel asked, with a slightly confused expression on her face.
Sam nodded and then gave Santana a guilty look. There was an awkward silence for a bit then where no-one of them really knew what to say or do until both girls decided to pull Sam up from the couch and give him a sympathetic hug, surprisingly he seemed a little calmer now after talking with them, well that was until they heard a knock on the door and his heart began pounding again like the speed of lightening as he watched Mercedes slide the big wooden door across to reveal Quinn standing behind it. He watched as the others starting piling in from the kitchen to greet her, even Rachel and Santana had left him to go over there now, but for some reason Sam just could not bring himself to move from the point in which he was standing. Instead he just kept his eyes fixed on Quinn, watching her hug Kurt and then Rachel, even Dani once Santana had introduced her. He smiled to himself, still keeping his gaze fixed on her, she looked perfect, her blonde hair had grown a lot since he last saw her it was just below her shoulders now and her make-up was discreet, showing off what Sam used to call her 'natural beauty'. He studied her for a good 10 minutes while she chatted with everyone until finally the moment came when their eyes locked.
