Song of the Day: Photographs by Ed Sheeran
Maya's POV
"Clayton," My 6 year old self whined as I tugged on his oversized costume. I giggled when I yanked a bit to hard causing him to fall to the ground.
"No." He said, crossing his tiny arms. Well, at least he tried to. The knight's armour was restricting him to cross his arms.
"But I want gummy worms." I pouted.
"Then you get it." Clayton argued back, tilting his head.
"But you're my knight and I'm the princess so you have to get for me." I said, a mischievous grin spreading across my childish features, knowing that I have won the argument. He opened his mouth once before closing. He grumbled under his breath as he shot me a playful glare. I stuck my tongue out at him.
"I hate you Maya," he said, dragging out the "a" in my name, heading downstairs.
"We both know you love me!" I shouted back, giggling a bit as he turned his head and flashed me a toothy smile, showing his missing two front teeth.
The sounds of the metallic, silver armour clanking echoed throughout the whole house as Clayton went to grab me my gummy worms. I sighed as I fiddled with my thumbs, a habit I had got from my mother, while staring down at my plastic blue costume I was wearing. It wasn't long when Clayton came back, but me being the dramatic one I sighed.
"Geez Clayton. It took you like a millions of years to get the gummy worms!" I exclaimed, scolding him. I gave him a toothy grin when he frowned and shrugged.
"You won't die, Maya," Clayton retorted.
"Oh but I will if you don't give me those godly gummy worms." I said. He rolled his eyes at me before handing me them. I snatched it away from him and greedily taking a handful of it and munched on them like a starved animal. My hands were coated with the sweet artificial sugar. I saw Clayton turning red slowly as he tried to keep a straight face. I tried to ignore it but, hey when child and curiosity comes to play, well lets just say, curiosity killed the cat. So to sum it up, curiosity gotten the best of me.
"What?" I asked, but my words were unfortunately muffled so instead of "What?" it came out as "Harmph?" That's when Clayton burst into fits of laughters. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"You..Pft..Have...Pftt... Have...Pfttt.... Three...Pft..Gummy... Worms... Pftt... In.. Your.....Pft....Hair!" He choked out between laughter. I turned red from embarrassment as I quickly brushed the gummy worms out of my hair.
"Sh-Shut up..." I stuttered. I threw some gummy worms at him.
"Hey!" he exclaimed.
"That's what you get for laughing at me, you meanie." I said in a strange posh voice. We both look at each other weirdly before bursting out in laughter.
"Why are we so weird?" I said, frowning, remembering what those kids in our school had called us.
"We aren't weird," Clayton said.
"We're just really awesome people!" I grinned when I heard that.
"Best friends forever?" I asked, sticking my chubby little pinkie finger out.
"Yup, best friends forever." He confirmed with a strange look in his eyes, something I couldn't understand, wrapping his own fingers around mine.
Little did I know, the day when we had made that promise, he would be the one to break it. And break my heart.
