i gave the signal, across the street to my partner to look on his left in the filthy alley way. our target, Jacob smith, was currently trying to run away from his debt and treason to the northwest end mafia. my partner, being the stupid rookie he is, walked straight towards him and stopped him i the middle of the road.

i face palm, and start walking through the shadows to make my way over there to save his skin again. i eye his pocket that he cautiously keeps darting his eyes to and before i can yell to jack that he's armed a loud boom is heard and people start running down the street, a few calling the police. i swear and scream out into the piercing cool night sky, and run towards jack as he begins to fall, slow motion before my eyes.

i scream at Jacob and he turns and runs. i drop to my knees cursing and screaming that it should have been me. but just as i reach for his hand i hear a cough and a small voice forming the words "a-Alice is that you" i take a sharp intake of breath and hot tears form in the corner of my eyes. i grab his chest and pull him into my lap, crying hysterically i hear him shift and feel his hand brush the cheek of my face.

"Alice, hey please listen to me", i turn my head toward his and sniffle, he pulls my face forward and plants a kiss on my cheek, "i love you" and falls. his last words, were wasted on me. i start crying so hard i feel as if i'm going to be sick and tighten my grip on his now ice cold body.

the only thing i really cared about, just left. i stood straight up, turn around, and began to walk down Preston avenue towards my favorite little cafe, and there

i faint.
