"You're insane. It's not right," yelled Gilden to Sorelen. It was nearing the end of a stormy day. The beach was deserted. No one with a will to live would ever be there, but they were.
Gilden again looked at Sorelen with disappointment. "You know I have helped you and supported you all these years in your quest and I have never questioned you. But you have gone too far."
Sorelen would not even look at Gilden. He couldn't. "I've tried the right way, but every time I think I've found one, she runs away when I tell her the truth. I see no other alternative. It may not be the best thing to do, but I have to."
"There is no stopping you anyway, is there?" Gilden continued without needing a response, "No, of course not. I do not support your decision, but I will stand by you as I should do and have always done." Gilden nodded resignedly. He knew there was no point in arguing with his companion.
They both looked out over the roiling ocean and spotted what Sorelen had been looking for, a distant fishing boat, out on the horizon, desperately trying to stay afloat. Both boys jumped into the ocean without a word.
