"For goodness sake! Pick one and let's go!"

My fingers tapped impatiently against the solid oak counter. Amy had been trying on dresses for over half an hour now, while I've been sat outside, counting the curtain hooks and  staring at the wall.

"Calm down! I'm down to the last dress and I'm pretty sure it's the one I'm going to get.."

Amy then went on to say how much she loved the beading on the design of the dress, all the while talking through the curtain of the changing room. I despised shopping, too many people, too many clothes. I couldn't handle the stress.

Finally, Amy emerged from the cramped changing room, looking sweaty and flustered. Her petite hand gripped on to several dresses. She looked up at me and let out a loud sigh and grinned from ear to ear.

"Finally found the perfect dress! He's going to love me in this."

She continued to ramble on about her anonymous newly found love interest. I tried to pay attention and act as if I was listening but to be frank, I wasn't interested.

"Hello? Aren't you listening?!" She clicked her fingers in front of my face, causing my eyes to widen. I tilted my head till I was looking at her.

Amy was simply stunning. I couldn't hide the fact that I was  insanely jealous of her. Her pin straight, shiny brunette hair hung just above her petite waist, her auburn highlights almost glowing in the light of the brightly lit store. She was slim and of average height, with bright green eyes and a perfect complexion. I on the other hand, did not have perfect features or a body to die for. I was quite plain. I had mouse blond hair with golden blond  highlights running from root to tip. It was  slightly longer than Amy's, landing on my waist, it too was perfectly straightened and in an exact middle part. I didn't think I was hideous, but I certainly didn't find myself attractive.

I realised I had been to caught up in my envious thoughts to answer Amy's question.

"Oh sorry, who is this guy anyway?"

Amy raised her eyebrows and shook her head smirking at me. She'd been keeping her crush a mystery for quite some time now, I was  eager to find out. It could be anyone, with Amy's jaw dropping looks and bubbly personality, she had quite a few takers.

"Oh c'mon Maddie, I've been dropping hints for weeks now! And you still has  no idea who it is? You'll have  to wait till the party tonight to find out won't you"

She was grinning madly at me and I decided she was right. I'd have to wait till tonight for the mystery man to be revealed. I chuckled and linked arms with her as we left the shop.

Although I hated shopping, I was pleased with the amount I'd bought. Since I rarely spent money on myself, I had a lot saved. I was really quite the girly girl despite my hate of shopping. I loved makeup and clothing. I loved to style my hair and  try out different looks. I didn't have much confidence. Most girls wore provocative outfits and heaps of makeup to attract attention, I wore the clothes I liked and makeup to make myself feel more comfortable in my own skin.

I'd bought some red MAC lipsticks and some topshop high waist shorts and crop tops. I preferred wearing shorter clothing, not to show off skin, but to make my stubby legs appear longer.

We'd been walking round the shopping centre in a comfortable silence for 10 minutes or so when Amy's phone rang. I tried to sneak a peek at the caller ID but to my surprise, it was an unknown number. Amy furrowed her eyebrows and brought the phone to her ear.

"Hello?" she asked, confused.

I heard a mumbled voice coming from the other side of the line. Amy's face immediately lit up at the sound of the stranger's voice. I guess it wasn't a stranger, who ever it was.

"Is it mystery guy?" I mouthed to her.

She simply put her finger to her lips to silence me, smirking widely as she did so.

"Great I'll see you then, I'm bringing Maddie too."

She couldn't stop smiling as she spoke to mystery guy, I couldn't help but feel jealous. I hadn't had that tingly feeling in my stomach in so long. I missed  having someone who made my heart race.

"Okay okay, bye Liam"

She immediately slapped  her hand over her mouth and ended the call. My eyes widened.

"Oh my God...do you mean to tell me that mystery guy is Liam Payne.."

She  slowly nodded, removing her hand from her mouth. We started jumping and squealing, not caring if people were staring at us.

"But how?! Since when did you guys talk? Why couldn't you tell me? Oh my goodness we've been crushing on him forever! He's so popular! How did this happen?"

"Wow wow, one question at a time. To be honest I don't really know, we started talking when he got seated next to me in biology, and he invited me to his party tonight! Can you believe it!"

"Amy this is huge, I'm so happy for you! You really need to look good tonight now!"

Liam was gorgeous and it didn't go unnoticed. Practically every girl at Bridgeway had the hots for him. Me and Amy had admired his lean muscular physique, messy stumble and cropped hair since day one at Bridgewater. I only ever admired his looks, but it seemed Amy felt more strongly about him.

"Will you do my hair and makeup? Oh my goodness I have no idea what I'm going to say. Do you think he could like me?"

"Its obvious he does Amy, I mean..he's obviously asked around for your  number if he has it and you don't have his. Plus you're beautiful! It's obvious he'll fall for you."

"I love you Maddie."

She pulled me in for a hug, I quickly hugged back, nuzzling my face into her neck. I could practically feel her grinning. I tried to convince  myself I was happy for her, but Icouldn't hide the fact I was jealous she had someone and I didn't.
