Keep on the fringes when the hounds come to hunt
Hide behind pages that you live between

But dogs and men, which are of the same breed--
Drooling jaws, barking teeth, eyes like the dumb,
But smarter than you, having learned to read--
Quickest of finders, through pages they thumb
And hounds, once lap pets, with fur once so soft
Chew through one's innards, snap sinew like gum
Your feathers from their lips are borne aloft
Glinting like glitter, like snow in the sun
Take extra care what countenance you keep
Lest you let the wolves think you are a sheep
