Maras P.O.V
It was quiet, no sounds from any type of animal or insect, just the sounds of our tired feet walking on the side of the road. Days earlier we did have a car, we had found it full of gas, Caplyn hotwired it, and after a couple of minutes of Adelyn bickering with Caplyn about who was going to drive we were off. I had looked around nervously, the feeling of someone watching us kept creeping up in the back of my mind. It made my hairs stand on end. But at some point we had no gas, we were very close to some smallish mountains and at the base was a forest of some sort, it was a good size, might even take days to get through it. So here we are, walking towards the darkened trees as the sky becomes darker and the air becomes colder.
Adelyn finally spoke up, "Guys I'm tired..," Baine nodded in Agreement, "Yeah me to, my feet are killing me," I smirked in his direction, "Its those shoes, they aren't the best for travel," I laughed slightly as he gave me a half hearted glare, Caplyn nodded, "Okay we can stop for now, but we need to be on our toes," Adelyn nodded as she sat down on the ground the rest of us following suit. Adelyn was the first to fall asleep. She must have been tired. Caplyn followed suit, laying his head on one of the bags he carried. Falling asleep quickly. Me and Baine sat quietly next to each other, him starring at his shoes me staring at the now darkened sky, clouds covering it like a blanket. Surprisingly he broke the silence, "Mara..?" I slightly tilted my head towards him, reassuring him that I was listening, "Mhm..?" He glanced up at me, "This is going to be a long journey isn't it?" I smiled softly and looked at him this time, "Yeah it is..,But we'll get threw it," He looked down, something was clearly plaguing his mind, I put my hand on his shoulder, "Are you okay? What's the mater?" He sighed shaking his head, I bit my lip, "I understand if you don't want to talk about it, but You can talk to me about anything Mr. Baine, we are kinda stuck in this together-" he cut me off, "Which reminds me, Don't call me Mr. Baine anymore, Just call me Jeff," I was slightly caught off guard by his request, but nodded, "Okay, well Jeff no matter what happens you can talk to me about anything," he smiled, "Thanks Mara" I nodded, "No reason to thank me, now you should get some sleep," he shook his head, "I'm not sleepy," I smirked, "Even so, men need their sleep, you need your strength, at least for a little while, I'll wake you up later," He smiled and nodded, "Fine, but next time you're sleeping," I smiled, "Deal, now go to sleep," with that he laid down and closed his eyes, his breathing became even after a little while. I smiled as I looked at the sky, I've always loved the sky, It was the one thing that no one ever completely understood about this world, I sighed as I rested my arms on my knees in turn resting my head, Surprisingly I didn't fall asleep, I just waited quietly, my thoughts comimg and going as the sun rose again, I smiled as the others rose slightly covering their faces, Adelyn groaned not wanting to get up. Caplyn smirked, "Adelyn get up, we need to keep going before the tremors catch up to us," she sighed as she got up slowly, "Fine.." I smiled as we grabbed our stuff and continued walking. After maybe an hour we made it to the woods, there was a slight path, but even that didn't last long, the path disappeared as we continued on our way.
Adelyn hummed to.herself quietly, Caplyn led the way, scanning the area, Baine looking down at the ground, I bit my lip as I looked around at the trees. Adelyn had glanced around noticing Baines sad expression, "Mr. Baine are you okay?" He nodded but looked up, "Adelyn please just call me Jeff," she made a confused face but Caplyn spoke up, "and call me Chris, there is no reason for you guys to call us by our last names," she nodded understanding, "Okay, Chris" he smirked to himself. I looked down smiling to myself. Jeff was right, this is going to be a long journey, but in all honesty, It's hard to tell that if the path we are taking is full of light or bathed in darkness....then again, there is only one way to find out, so I'll leave it as a Grey Day.Authors notes: YaY! Chapter two, hope you enjoy, it took me a minute to think of a good plot with this one
