-Flashback-
*I turned the dial of the radio up as my mum and I pranced around in the kitchen, free-styling to the beat of the music.
The floor shook slightly, due to our dancing as we finished up preparing for the Saturday night dinner.
Ever since my parents divorce six years ago we had drifted away from dad's side of the family and it felt like I barely remembered them at all.
After all this time we had agreed to make amends, explaining the hard work my mother had put into organising the whole event.
The whole time we spent cooking my thoughts drifted to my cousins Paige and Josh, whom I'd briefly remember meeting as a child, when Aunt Megan was tight with my mum.
As if they could hear my thoughts, the doorbell rang announcing the arrival of aunt Megan,
and the twins could be heard not far behind her.The hallway filled with sounds of laughter and hugging as my mum and Megan caught up. "It's been too long Mona" I heard Megan saying.
Tearfully my mum replied "I didn't think you'd want to talk to me after the divorce, and I couldn't handle knowing that I'd be making you choose from your family".
"Oh nonsense" Megan said.
I couldn't help quietly watching the reunion unfold as I shyly stood in the corner, until my mum had called me to meet everyone.
I was also nervous as to how the twins would react to me as I didn't really know them that well and my social skills went as far as my mum being my best friend.
I was happily surprised that Paige and Josh both took the time to try and get to know me better as well as the other members that had arrived minutes later.
At the end of the night after the huge clean up, it was just my mum and I. Sitting on the couch snuggled up I could say that life had never been better.*
