New Beginnings

It's the first day of freshman year. I'm not entirely excited to go through what half of people say is "the best year of their lives" or what the other half say what were "the worst years of their lives" . I don't know which spectrum I'll be on but all I can do is hope for the best. Going to an educated public school with many Black brothers and sisters, along with quite a lot of Native Americans as well, I am sure to have an... eh... great year.

I step out of the shower, finishing my thoughts of how the school will be and move on to how I'll look. "JAMIE! HURRY UP! IT'S THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!" my mother shouts from downstairs. She most likely is shouting because I take a long time to get ready. My hair is always a bit hard to get together within 5 minutes (thank God for sew-ins) and my makeup must be perfection at all costs. For the first day, I decide to wear a white sweater, shorts, knee high gray socks, a beanie, and the cutest brown fringe shoes. I decided to go for a natural makeup look. I strutted down the stairs in my rather cute attire and went to take first day pictures with my mom and sister.

I head outside to the bus stop to meet up with my friends, Freddie and Quinn. Freddie was my neighbor across the street. She's a half White, half Filipino brunette little weirdo who is in band and loves video games. For some reason, even though she might be on the quirky side, she still has been one of my closest friends since 7th grade. Quinn was my acquaintance. She'd call me her friend but I really wouldn't like to be in her realm. She's a brunette white girl who lives a couple houses away from mine who is weird in a.. well weird way. I believe there's good weird (the type of weird that is funny and quirky) and there's not-so-good weird (the type of weird that makes you uncomfortable). Quinn was still in middle school as an 8th grader. She waited for the bus stop along with her little red-head sister, Erin, which was in our same place. Thankfully the bus wasn't late on the first day.

Even though the bus was crowded in middle school. It was the exact opposite for high school. There were 9 people on our bus. My best friend Renee, my bully Tannis, my ex-boyfriend Yannic, Umar, Iris, Octavia, Penny, Freddie, and I were the only ones on there. I sat near Yannic, Umar, and Iris for the ride. Yannic and I just didn't click so the break up wasn't bad and no part of us sitting together was awkward. The entire bus ride was rather quiet.

My first class of the day was Honors English 1. "Please be somebody i know in here, Please be somebody i know in here..." I repeated incessantly in my head. I walked in and the minute I look around, I saw my cheer mate, Avery.

Avery was a light skin black girl who recently just lost a lot of weight and looks great. She was also very smart so I was glad I could sit next to her this entire semester. Sadly, the other middle school who came to William McKinley High were from the rival middle school, were the only people in the class so I only knew Avery. My teacher for English's name is Mr. Sutton. Mr. Sutton is a black man who seems very flamboyant and fun. We all need a little fun our first year, right?
