The brown girls emotions were on high after the news. She wanted to tell every single body and of course the first person that popped in her mind to tell was her baby, the love of her life. She grabbed her phone from out of her locker and ran into the bathroom knowing she didn't have much time before she had to be in the studio.
Normani:
Lauren I can't talk now baby, but I got it!!!!After the text was sent she went and placed her phone back in her locker before trotting back and into the studio, this time ignoring any grudging looks from the other dancers.
"Hey Mani, congrats"
The brown girl looked to the left of her and one of the dancers from her section was on the floor by the door stretching her legs out looking up at her. This was such a contrast to the reactions she had been getting from the other dancers, well besides Tiki. But she assumed that Tiki was so supportive because of how close they were.
"Thank you" the brown girl nodded graciously with a small smile and pushed through the door.
It was all becoming too real too fast. She was really the principal dancer at the dance company that she had dreamed of since a little girl. She quickly sighed shaking the stupid thought of seeing her father again for the time since she was a little girl out of her head. She hated that maybe this was her dream because of him. She hated that she thought just maybe he would see her named plastered everywhere and would come, at least out of curiosity to see the woman she grew up to be. She hated that she missed him even though she knew absolutely nothing about him besides the fact that he left, leaving Mama Drea to fend on her own.
She often thought about how different her life would be if he never left. Maybe she wouldn't be an only child. Maybe Mama Drea wouldn't have had to work countless hours leaving Normani home alone just to make ends meet and allow them to keep their lovely home. Maybe Mama Drea would have been able to come to her dance performances more often not just attending about one a year because of work.
Though all of these possibilities sounded good they brought Normani to face the fact that if he stayed, Lauren and her wouldn't be where they are today. Lauren wouldn't have had to come to her house every night and weekend to keep her company. Lauren wouldn't have had to hold her and wipe away the tears. Lauren wouldn't have had to make it her right to sit front row for every show that Normani had. Lauren probably wouldn't be here. The thought is chilling.
But as she stretched her arms over her head, relieving her shoulder muscles Lauren crossed through her mind and she smiled softly knowing that she has her childhood bestfriend to call her own.
She started looking around the studio again and glanced at a few dancers, some she knew were all over Idris and this all confused her. She did nothing but reject Idris. While the other hand the other dancers were throwing their bodies on him.
As she took her spot on the floor a thought ran through her head. Maybe he saw her work ethic and her passion for it and chose her the fair way because he thought she deserved it.
But on the other hand it still didn't sit easy with her. He was just a strange man.
She decided to shrug it off and not let her ramped thoughts get in the way of the joy she felt in the moment. Dancing all of her life led up to this moment, the moment that proved that all of the sore feet, aching limbs and bruised bones were worth it. Hell even breaking her leg had some purpose in this, the lessons it taught her about bouncing back and perseverance. And also who would always be there for her.
